It's an unfortunate truth that if you don't have some manner of pretty pictures, you're going to have a hard time gaining popularity.
THAT SAID! You don't need to be a super talented artist, you just need to know how to apply the talent you have. Look at Weaver. We all love the shit outta him, but his art isn't particularly amazing. It's just stylized in such a way that's nice to look at. |

I've found that if you have your works posted on Ponibooru, mention other tumblrs on your blog, have good artwork, and are witty you get a lot of hits. |

This whole thing is so true it hurts.
In the 2 months that I've been running the "Ask the Flower Trio" blog I've learned a lot of what Solar is saying here first hand. My biggest bumps in viewership have been when my postings get reblogged by "famous" people. I like to joke around that "Whoever controls the chubbies controls the Tumblrverse" but I proved myself right when I reposted a simple chubbies picture I had drawn long ago, and then one reblog later I have over 60 followers in a single night. Going from 275 to 340. As has already been said, the only thing Solar missed here was whoring yourself on Ponibooru. Without doing that, my blog would've died really fast, because until very recently my updates weren't even showing up on people's dashboards. |

The only thing you really need is to post it here. I never use tumblr so the only way I find ask blogs is by seeing it here.
Drawing requests and crossovers usually come after the ask blog is well known. You need the main course before you can get sides and dessert. |
