I kind of felt the same way. I thought Spike's crush on Rarity was cute but it was never gonna be anything but a running gag or a character attribute of his. During SomE, his moments with Rarity were down right the most touching scenes from not just season 2 but from the entire series so far. |

That's pretty cute, even if Spike is too young for her at the moment.
For his sake, I hope his adult (since it seems dragons are somewhat flexible in this regard) most closely resembles the humanoid one from his fantasy in 'A Dog and Pony Show'. |
