...I find it kinda funny how, just three months ago, no one really supported this pairing, yeah, you'd see a pic or two, and some people would agree that it's cute, but that was about it, now, after that episode, everyone's treating it like it's canon. ....it's not really canon people, the only thing it proved was that Rarity wasn't an idiot, and she had enough heart to appreciate his little crush. |

I kind of agree and not agree with you. Its a children's show, after all, and serious romantic relationships are inappropriate content for something like that. Even Mr and Mrs Cake could be passed off as friends if it wasn't established they are married. On the other hand, how cannon can a ship be on a children's show? Its cannon that Spike has a crush on Rarity. Then in Secret of my Excess, its made cannon that Rarity enjoys Spike's adoration. Add that to the fact none of the other character demonstrate crushes or romantic interests towards other characters except Spike and Rarity making it even more thinkable that they are the show's OTP. |

Sigh...how often do I have to remind folks that Rarity is an adult and Spike is a child? Yes, Spike has a crush on Rarity and Rarity seems to enjoy his admiration, but that's as far as it goes--as far as it CAN go, really. |

^^^But I'm straight and I perfer yuri shipping. It doesn't have much to do with Girl-on-girl as much as it's because theirs more female charectors then male, and I'm not a big fan of spike.
Of course, anyone who likes straight pairings can feel free to continue shipping them, as I have no problem with them {Though for some reason I hate any pairing that involves soarin execpt for the one with spitfire}. |

I'm talking mental/emotional ages, Anon. The writers have made it pretty clear that Spike, despite his intelligence, has the emotional maturity of a young child. And Rarity, even though a young adult, is nonetheless an adult. The two can't possibly have a romantic relationship, at least, not until Spike naturally grows up and matures emotionally enough to have such a relationship. And as that's not likely to happen during the course of the series, let's just accept the fact that Spike will have an unrequited crush. |
