What I wanna know is, How did a pegasus and an earth/Galfreyan pony produce two unicorns? and why are they in shades of purple if Mom and Dad were Grey and Brown? |

There are numerous theories that allow such families to occur. The obvious one being genetics, where every single pony can have "a bit of X" in them, which can be passed down to a foal who'll have that gene take dominance. A "Real Life" reason is because the fandom doesn't create these families with each pony's race in mind, instead it's based on the perceived relationships of the ponies to one another. |

The doctor isn't thier real father, and Sparkler may or may not be Derpy's actual child either, I just assume Dinky's actual father was a unicorn, he either died or devorced, and Derpy got with the Doctor later down the line, or atleast that's my headcannon atleast XD |

My headcannon is that Dinky and Sparkler were produced in roughly the same manner as Jenny in the Doctor's Daughter. Both colonies had a shortage of female unicorns, and there we go.
Also, Dinky is, chronologically, the older sister. |

Look up "dominant and recessive genes". It is possible and common to inherit a trait from a grandparent (or a great-great-grandparent) without it manifesting in the generations in between. You yourself probably carry many latent characteristics that you do not yourself have but will still pass onto your children. Or, Derpy may have alicorn genes, they may be adoptees, TARDIS magic at work etc. (In my own headcanon Derpy's not an idiot, Doc's not a time lord, and the Sparklers aren't their children either...but that's irrevelant.) |
