Okay... do you have any particular pieces of art or artists there you'd like to suggest looking at? |

Remove "Pony" and this statement would be factual. |

This statement is false. |

Yeah, but really, it kind of boils down to two reasons:
1.) deviantArt suffers from its fairly extensive membership, making the symptoms of Sturgeon's Law a great deal more obvious. As quoted from Wikipedia, some fairly stale stats: [1] The Wikipedia article about Pixiv said: [2] dA's Wikipedia article said: As you see, dA was and probably still is a great deal bigger. And it houses a large range of artists, ranging from the (as I see it, naturally) talented, such as themrock (Derek Schultz), LuigiL (Luigi Lucarelli), and GENZOMAN, to those who either don't really have a presence worth mentioning or art worth praising, like such as Raging-Banebou, or our very own Xuncu. Pixiv doesn't really have that problem. It's smaller and catered towards Japanese people, and this narrower audience leads me to the second point: 2.) Cultural (and other) differences. There's a great range of cultures all across dA, hailing from pretty much any part of the world you can think of. Thusly, lots of different people. Not all of these people came from an artistically-inclined background, or are as hard-working/talented as other artists, but dA houses them nevertheless. Some of the more impressive ones, naturally, hail from the East Asian countries, places like China and Japan, and in those countries (as I understand it), a lot of emphasis is placed on doing well in things, working hard to excel. (Often, the alternative is being stuck in a dead-end in life.) And being tailored to the Japanese, that's what Pixiv's community is full of. You don't see a great deal of poor art on there, as a result of the narrower focus demographic. (Feel free to correct me on any of the second point's inevitable misconceptions - I'm speaking informally, as a consensus of what I've read.) |

And, while the Japanese may produce routinely better fanart, they're not nearly as prolific. |

It depends on what your in for. Yes, I've seen bad art work before, but as long as some thought/originality was put in it, I didn't mind. As for high quality art...yeah, it's prettier, but sometimes is there any real substance to it? The point is crap art, while usually mockable, has it's moments just like everything else. |
