I actually feel really sorry for Gilda, seeing all the crap she gets from the fandom.

Gilda only wanted to see her old friend from the academy. A friend who had left unexpectedly in disgrace. Gilda had probably spent a fair bit of time trying to find her and all she wanted to do was catch up.
Pinkie wouldn't even let them spend a day to themselves and she chased them relentlessly. |

I've met people like Gilda in real life-- people who try to socially isolate others just to tickle their own egos, and who have no sense of boundary when it comes to pranks. That's why I can't feel sorry for Gilda, no matter how much her fanboys claim we should. I hate her because the writers wanted us to hate her, and because I've hated real people who are like her. Her making my favorite pony cry was just the tip of the iceberg. She's not a woobie, or tsundere-- she's a bully, and she does not deserve my sympathy. |

@ 795723 While I see your point, I personally can't look at her as some irredeemable monster in this show considering they're willing to look past things in each other, their friends, their neighbours and their rulers. Nontrivial things I might add, like trying to blanket the entire land in an unending night (Luna), throw them off the side of a cliff (Luna), get them attacked by a rampaging manticore (Luna), trampling the town (the cows), poisoning the town (Applejack), bringing a giant star bear into the town (Snips and Snails), provoking a dragon and nearly getting them barbequed (Rainbow Dash), destroying the town by bringing in pests then magically altering said pests (Fluttershy and Twilight), nearly getting famous celebrities splattered (Rarity), nearly getting someone petrified (Cutie Mark Crusaders), dropping furniture and anvils on someone (Derpy and Raindrops), provoking a war (Pinkie's terrible dance number), trying to destroy a town (the Buffalo), nearly getting someone killed by running off in the middle of the night into the lair of a belligerent dragon (Spike), freeing Chaos Incarnate (Cutie Mark Crusaders), the various cruelties performed while brainwashed (Mane Cast), hypnotizing the town into fighting over a doll (Twilight), becoming a giant monster and almost destroying the town, while kidnapping Rarity and the Wonderbolts (Spike)...
This doesn't include the various humiliations, insults, panics, petty crimes, non-townwide cases of property damage or non-grievous bodily injuries they had done to each other and others. |
