Wow way to sound like a bunch of arrogant self entitled babies. This is just amazing that they would take this route in terms of responding to Hasbro. And it's not like there are other means of "getting" the episodes. |

To the admin of ponyarchive:
Stop being such a baby. Hasbro has full rights to takedown videos, if it infringes their copyright of whatever. |

I feel kind of bad, but at the same time I know what Ponyarchive was doing is wrong. But this seems childish. |
| Anonymous #792884 7 months ago |
Personally, I think they should have just shut down gracefully. They aren't helping the brony image in Hasbro's eyes by trying to avoid closure.... |

| Nebbie #792925 7 months ago |
I doubt the legitimacy of the cease & desist. It looks mostly legit, except they ask for removing an image of Pinkie Pie for no apparent reason.
Also, linking to infringing content has somewhat uncertain legal status, but generally is found to not be illegal. This is why Google can link you to episodes on youtube without trouble in court. |

I think the only reason hasbro sent the letter was because they were using itunes rips, and you don't want to mess with Apple. |
| Doctor_Whooves #792941 7 months ago |
The show only being available on US iTunes is a huge pain in the ass. Though you can get around it in other countries by purchasing iTunes US gift cards and registering an account on the US iTunes to use them.
If you limit yourself to iTunes 10.0 when downloading the episodes, I'm pretty sure Requiem 1.9.8 will strip the DRM and create the same type of raw, DRM-free iTunes dumps Ponyarchive was offering. |
| DeeperMadness #792948 7 months ago |
@liquidXTC:
Are you really asking? If so, for all YouTube videos of any sort, I recommend Keepvid. It's pretty much where everyone has gone to for donkey's years. If you're using an Android phone, then you'll probably want to have a go on the Tubemate app website (which is no longer available on the app store, so if this isn't the correct link, you'll have to search for it using the mobile browser). For the PS3, open the PS3's browser and go to PS3 Youtube's website and follow the instructions (it's really easy). You can watch all the episodes in HD that way, straight from the console. |
| liquidXTC #792962 7 months ago |
Okay, I searched myself. (20seconds with google... ahem) and http://keephd.com/ seems to do a good job, although the download as mp4 doesn't really seem to work.
I suggest you all download all eps that you don't already have on your HDD, who knows how long they will be up on youtube. |

Okay folks. Lets do the right thing and buy the episodes on iTunes. It really is for the best.
However, for whatever fucking reason, it seems many can't access iTunes in other countries. Time to call Apple and tell them to stop suing HTC and make iTunes a useful program. If you can't legally get the episodes, here's the next best thing: http://www.downloadhelper.net/ |
| Anonymous #793178 7 months ago |
Ponyarchive, I hope Hasbro sues your stupid ass.
They were being plenty civil by telling you to take down the site. Responding like a little bitch to their request is suicide. |
| Anonymous #793266 7 months ago |
@Greatnocturn: I don't know what you mean by declining-in-quality episodes, the season's been great so far. There have been a couple off eps, but it's no more than season 1 had on average. |
| Doctor_Whooves #793327 7 months ago |
#793158: It's not that people in other countries can't access iTunes; just that the iTunes Stores in those countries have significantly less content than the US iTunes Store, especially in the case of television shows and movies. Apple doesn't bother acquiring the rights to distribute said content in those regions, for various reasons. Until they do, they're only encouraging piracy. |

I wanted to post a pic of Discord saying "This again?" but Ponibooru lacks it (unless it wasn't tagged "discord caption")
So here, have this instead. Get over yourself, you can't open up a site dedicated to piracy and NOT expect to be shut down. Besides, making piracy *that* easy allows all the fucktards to think that they know how to torrent, and the next thing you know we've got thousands of fools spamming torrent downloads asking "how do i install dis?" or "how do I mount the image? my dick can't touch it" People who wanna pirate will pirate, because they have the motivation to spends hours waiting, searching and downloading, people who don't (or just want to avoid prison) will go legit. And then there are people who will pirate if the process is catered to ease the load on their primate minds. |

ponyarchive is gone, so dumb people will pay apple for ponies. apple takes that money and uses it to attack smart people who wanna pirate. who cares how dumb people were for using ponyarchive? instead focus on the actual consequences, which is more power going to your enemies. then it doesn't seem like such a chill thing no more. |

DHN is is Lansing, Michigan. Easy mark unless it gets moved to a "wild" country like Tuvali. Then the URL would be something like derpyhoovesnews.tv The WHOLE thing has to be moved, even the contact addresses. |

Hasbro's a traded corporation. They exist to make money for the shareholders.
I used to have videos of the series on my Youtube account. Then, around August or September, somebody posted them on the official MLP Facebook page, and they got a DMCA Notice filed against them. It was a real notice! It came from a real guy in Hasbro Legal! And the point is, this isn't a weird thing for them to be doing. It's not some bizarre, abnormal thing. Hasbro exists to make money, and the most obvious way for them to ever make a cent off this fandom is by selling HD copies of the show on iTunes. Going after a site like this might be rude or abrupt, but you can't act like it doesn't make sense. |

| Anonymous #794402 7 months ago |
^ I don't think people would be having a problem with picking them up off iTunes except apparently the iTunes copies have washed out colors and of course DRM preventing you from using anything but Apple's own software to watch them. If they're going to force people to go through them the least they can do is have the decency in them to give them the real product instead of watered-down crap. But that's apparently expecting too much of Apple, since they're well aware they can crap out anything they want and their legions of sheep-brained fans will buy it up like it's solid gold. |

This was a very immature response to a very justifiable cause. Hasbro have been very good in keeping free options available for bronies like the YouTube videos, but they have to draw the line somewhere in order to keep making profits and therefore continue the show.
As much as I liked ponyarchive, a site offering each episode in different qualities and download methods is so far past the line that the line is just a blur behind it. I trust real "bronies" to buy the boxsets and support Hasbro properly should they come out. |
| Anonymous #796554 7 months ago |
Youtube is fine. A database of videos is not. Besides, a DVD is coming out soon. Hasbro cracked down the last time, so why not this time? Until SOPA somehow passes or Hasbro becomes actively involved in deleting Youtube accounts, I'm not the least bit worried. |
| Carcer #796563 7 months ago |
You're deluded if you think that ponyarchive was a threat to Hasbro's profits. Here's a hint: if someone cares enough to buy the DVDs they were the sort of person who was going to buy the DVDs anyway regardless of whether or not they already had all the episodes downloaded somehow. We can argue the immaturity of PA's response all day but at the end of it, really, this achieves absolutely nothing for Hasbro. Don't act like it was a totally necessary action for them to take to protect their god-given profits. |
| Anonymous #796585 7 months ago |
Here's why someone wouldn't buy the DVDs: They're not HD. |
| Anonymous #796608 7 months ago |
Hasbro makes so much fucking money anyways, don't know why they feel so threatened. Sheesh, corporations. |
| Lancer #796614 7 months ago |

| Nebbie #796638 7 months ago |
It was probably to send a message that they are not as tolerant of us getting the episodes for free as we thought...
I would not be surprised if the legal team at Hasbro wasn't communicating with management about what they're doing, and is preparing for passage of SOPA so they can do what they think is right. Lukkily SOPA is unlikely to pass, but it won't stop lawyers from being completely out of touch. |
| ClavisRozen #796644 7 months ago |
@Carcer
Exactly. And it's not like all those that had the downloads or would download the episodes would suddenly buy a DVD if they're not able to download anymore. |
| Anonymous #796681 7 months ago |
No fucking way I go in public to buy a MLP DVD. |
| Zancrow #796686 7 months ago |
Holy shit, I can't take my eyes away from that gif, Harlequin_Jester.
It's like........wow. |
| Wheezie_Moonflower #796753 7 months ago |
It was probably not Hasbro itself, but their lawyers. They get complaints from other studios, and they put put these knee-jerk reactions as they didn't want to be involved in legal matters they have no quarrel with. Lawyers are a fickle bunch. |
| Anonymous #796774 7 months ago |
I already said my piece.
Bottom line is, Hasbro is a publicly traded corporation. Publicly traded corporations exist to make money. Literally! If they're doing something else they can get in legal trouble from it! And while this fandom is great, for the people in it and the people making the show, it's worthless to a publicly traded corporation unless we're buying something. Now, this kind of action may not be the best way to try and get us to actually pay for iTunes downloads or whatever. But that doesn't mean it's weird or surprising. It makes sense, from a corporation's point of view! |
