She'll probably refrain from reading any fanfics for anything for a few reasons:
a) She's really busy and doesn't have a lot of free time b) If she ends up making an episode of something that has a premise that is similair to a fanfic she admits to reading, even in a different universe, she may expose her project to legal action. |

Her not reading fanfics was personal policy, not in her contract or anything.
There's little actual legal risk, and specific denials can be done as well as blanket denials. Also, no matter how much is denied about reading fics, and no matter how few fics are read, there is still potential of lawsuits. People looking to get money out of a company aren't easily stopped from suing by things like facts. |

Isn't she working on a new show now though? I'm fairly certain she's pretty busy most of the time with that.
Besides, fanfics have a bit of a nasty reputation on the Internet. The term usually conjures up thoughts of stories like this one. |

She could always legally read fanfiction. Creators read their fandoms fics and look at their comics all the the time - heck, if I release a book I'd pay attention to any fans I have. |

there are problems with fruit of the poison tree. the legal risk comes from the following scenario:
1) scriptwriter reads fanfic 2) scriptwriter writes script for episode 3) fanfic author claims episode infringes his fanfic what's necessary here is for writers to not read stuff about their characters to which they have no rights. or at least, make it stated policy to not read such things. thus when (3) happens they have a workable defense: that (1) didn't, so it was just parallel evolution. |
