I think the problem is that aside from Derpy, there aren't really a lot of iconic background pegasuseseses. Personally I like Cloudkicker, but she's nowhere near as popular as these six(Well I guess Carrot Top isn't tremendously popular either, but more so then any background pegasus). |

^ That's the other thing, they're in fanon pairs. Derpy goes with Carrot Top to raid her fridge. Nobody's paired with any other pegasus.
Actually I think Berry Punch would have to rate as far more popular than Octavia or Carrot Top...but get rid of Octavia and you'd have to lose DJ-PON3. Get rid of Carrot Top and you'd have to get rid of Derpy (which makes even less sense than losing DJ-PON3.) Add in Berry Punch to replace either of them and you'd have to add in...Cheerilee? Aside from that being a particular Tumblr artist's (very hilarious) pairing rather than show quasi-canon, Cheerilee's had several fairly involved scripted parts and isn't a background pony by any reasonable definition. But there isn't any other pairing for Berry Punch that makes any more sense either. |

Pretty sure Octavia is more popular than Berry Punch. BP is down in the 2nd tier with Colgate, Carrot Top, Bon Bon ect.
Big 5 Derpy Lyra Scratch Octavia Dr. Whooves Cheerilee, Trixie and such aren't strictly BG characters. They have canon names and dedicated VAs. |
