That's really two ways to spell it same thing, windigo, weendigo, windago, waindigo, windiga, witiko, wihtikow, and wanka are all the same thing. |

Wendigos are a metaphor use to enforce encouraging cooperation and moderation Nightmare Moon is standed to eat ponies and no sun would have froze everything thus Luna was possessed by a Windigo |
