Oh please, the whole setup made it quite clear that unicorns hatching dragon eggs was a common thing. |
| Anonymous #780848 7 months ago |
Never actually thought of that...... Quite an interesting idea actually. |
| Anonymous #780857 7 months ago |
ITS CANON |
| Fuzzy_Logic #780865 7 months ago |
Wasn't hatching the egg...kind of...the main final exam or something like that? It seemed like it was pretty concrete that it was something everybody learning at the castle has to do. I dunno, Lauren, I think you might be making stuff up as you go in response to things like this haha |
| Cyanfunk #780866 7 months ago |
So...Celestia is Spike's mom? |
| Anonymous #780869 7 months ago |
@Hakar:Well,that's strange,I thought the test given to Twilight was an "special" one,but certainly a type of test they don't do all the time. |
| HeinousActsZX #780871 7 months ago |
I love the idea that Twilight and Spike could bring in an age of peace between drogans and ponies with their friendship.
Celestia is smart. |
| Cyanfunk #780873 7 months ago |
One idea I like about the dragon egg in the exam is that the goal wasn't to hatch it, but to use some magic on it and get graded on what happened. |
| Anonymous #780874 7 months ago |
So when Spike said Twilight isn't her mommy, he meant it.... |
| HeinousActsZX #780878 7 months ago |
*smack*
DRAGONS! |
| Anonymous #780879 7 months ago |
@Hakar: Not necessarily. The test might've just been a mockup. More to show how a unicorn takes an approach to a problem, how they deal with the problem, and how they handle the stress. The egg could've been used again and again as a false trial. You didn't have to hatch the egg to pass, just show ability. |
| DPV111 #780883 7 months ago |
I always thought hatching the egg was supposed to be impossible and it was simply a gauge of the applicant's level of power and ingenuity in attempting an impossible task. |
| MudPuppy #780884 7 months ago |
@Fuzzy Well, she mentioned the fact that Twi hatched him. It does make sense to me, and this doesn't really seem like one of those things she just made up on the spot. |
| Anonymous #780885 7 months ago |
Means Spike is a magic dragon if he can use magic taught by Celestia. Green magic flame instead of wings, I like. |
| QuelloScelto #780890 7 months ago |
In other words, Twilight is more like Spike's Sister at the end |
| DiegoHavoc #780893 7 months ago |
I'm guessing that the point of the exam wasn't to hatch the egg. Probably it was thought that it was impossible to do, and you were graded on how much magic you showed while trying. twilight was simply the first to do it. |
| Glord #780897 7 months ago |
Well maybe Twilight is the only one to actually hatch an egg.
Of course then you have to figure out how anypony else got into the school. |
| Glord #780906 7 months ago |
ninja'd to hell and back. |
| TobiasKazama #780907 7 months ago |
@Hakar
But, depending on the amount of students - wouldn't that result in waaay to many baby dragons running around? |
| Anonymous #780908 7 months ago |
Considering that most of the episodes are written by different people(while maintaining certain continuity,of course),I wouldn't be surprised that they would have stated in an episode that Twilight just got "Lucky" with the exam and the whole "Hatch a Dragon's Egg" was just something that rarely happens in the academy. |
| TobiasKazama #780911 7 months ago |
@DiegoHavoc
Wow, that's actually a great idea! |
| BackgroundPony17 #780918 7 months ago |
Hatching a dragon's egg was the "Kobayashi Maru" test in Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns. It was intended to see what an aspiring unicorn would do in the face of a problem too great for their magic to solve.
They didn't count on Twilight Sparkle being the James T. Kirk of Equestria. |
| Cyanfunk #780921 7 months ago |
Spike: My sister's a walking superweapon and my mom's god. What's your family like? |
| Anonymous #780926 7 months ago |
Kirk cheated, she didn't. |
| Anonymous #780930 7 months ago |
@908
And by "Lucky" I meant it in a sense she got to do that difficult exam.Is like the examinators didn't wanted her to hatch him,but something else. |
| HeinousActsZX #780940 7 months ago |
I like backgroundpony's explanation. |
| thatguy #780942 7 months ago |
Well that explains why Twilight didn't know about the greed = growth thing. But it doesn't explain why Zecora knew about it. |
| Anonymous #780945 7 months ago |
"Dragons are all myterious to Ponies"
That would explain the Secret of my Excess episode. |
| PonyRIG #780952 7 months ago |
@thaguy: Zecora knows everything.... |
| Anonymous #780954 7 months ago |
Is it possible Celestia NEVER knew anything about dragon's hoarding instincts and how it makes them transform (or anything about dragons for that matter). Strange that Zacora is very knowledgeable about them. |
| Cyanfunk #780961 7 months ago |
She also didn't know what a parasprite was.
Celestia's really not all that observant. |
| Anonymous #781008 7 months ago |
Zecoras a zebra.. |
| TobiasKazama #781024 7 months ago |
@781008
Of course! That explains everything! |
| MudPuppy #781029 7 months ago |
This comment thread has raised an interesting point: why do they worship Celestia when she doesn't know all? All hail the All-Knowing Zecora! |
| Anonymous #781030 7 months ago |
Celestia is not omniscient. She clearly is too wrapped up in governing.
Exhibit A: Cyanfunk's Observation. (780961) Exhibit B: Dragons Zecora comes from a different place and thus has a different skill set. Zecora has a lot more experiential knowledge than almost everpony. |
| MudPuppy #781032 7 months ago |
^That's a lot of 'alls' lol. |
| Anonymous #781034 7 months ago |
@DiegoHavoc MLP: Magic Academy
The Kobayashi Maru of Equestria |
| Anonymous #781151 7 months ago |
Zecora is really Celestia in disguise. |
| Anonymous #781360 7 months ago |
I still prefer the original theory.
Spike specifically said that he only received gifts from Twilight. Celestia should have given some gifts on his birthday then. |
| LightningLazer #782260 7 months ago |
Celestia put Spike and Twilight together and let her stay in his life.
Twilight treating Spike like a slave rather than her very best friend, I think doing this might backfire. This is my opinion, deal with it. |
| Anonymous #782991 7 months ago |
Zecora comes from outside Equestria - perhaps dragons and parasprites are more common there. |
| Anonymous #787177 7 months ago |
So THAT'S why Twilight knew nothing about his growth spurt, even though she'd OBVIOUSLY have read all she could about dragons. |
| majob #788367 7 months ago |
It's Canon until the Hub makes an episode saying otherwise. Like it or not, Lauren doesn't call the shots anymore. |
| Posey #791206 7 months ago |
I take Lauren with a pinch of salt. The other writers and animators love throwing her canon out the window. |
| MudPuppy #797239 7 months ago |
@788367 It annoys me when people say 'The Hub' or 'Hasbro' are the ones making an episode. Network executives are NOT the ones making the episode: it's the actual creative people, writers and storyboard artists, etc, that make the episode, even if the network does have a bit of input.
And the 'actual creative people' are the same people who do value Lauren's input a lot. If Jayson sees this (and come on - it's on EqD), then I'm willing to bet that's the way it's going to be in the show. It's highly likely that he already was informed of stuff like this from Lauren, and considers it part of the universe. |
| Niggoslav_Krawczyk #1034642 4 months ago |
^True of other networks, but they seem smart enough to know not to murder their cash cow. Not like how Eisner Disney and beyond which only saw 'fashion dollars' from their live action junk. |
| Raindrops #1355169 2 months ago |
Because any of us will EVER accept anything Lauren Faust says as no canon.
Yep. |
