Discord did rule Equestria for a time in an era of chaos. Then the Princesses stepped in and overthrew him. so it still fits. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say they REcreated harmony for all the land, But I think that's just nick-picking. |

But it goes something like this? - Pony tribes hate each other - Pony tribes band together - Rule of Discord - Rule of Regal Sisters - Lunar Banishment - Celestia's Rule - Return of Luna - Return of Regal Sisters' Rule That all seems fine and dandy, but where did Celestia and Luna? Did Discord suddenly come and the pony's main reaction would be to create a super pony that could defeat Discord? And for that matter, look at the flag they put up at the end of the play! You mean a despotic takeover, Vree. Celestia and Luna are obviously usurpers, seizing power for themselves after overthrowing Discord. They re-wrote the official history books to make it appear that their coup was legitimized by the ponies who "gratefully accepted" their rule. |

First things first: this is a fairy tale. A metaphor with strong an simple concept so that even a 7yo kid will eb able to understand it. This is not a factual history which -- suprise -- based on documental facts. Second: the writer for this episode Merriwether Williams, he is the new guys, it is understandable he didn't really keep with Lauren's story because actual backstory wasn't the point of this episode. Now for that Tyrant Celestia nonsense. The word you are looking for is usurper, not Tyrant. But problem is that before Sisters (Sisters, as two - which means if you want to call someoen a usurper you end up calling of them) came into Equestria, Discord took control over the ponies and played his twisted evil games with their innocent souls. So, when Sisters arrived they were saviors, not usurpers, because Discord's reign was tyrannical (speaking of real tyrants) and thus invalid, against the will of those who he ruled over. Please, at last think a bit before make the collage which point seems to be useless. |

I think that Discord came from somewhere else in the universe, took over the planet and started to bring back chaos . He's like an infinitelly old god from somewhere. You can easily see this in his immense power to change so many things so easily. The ponies didn't like it and created/found the elements (perhaps they are also as old as Discord). Celestia and Luna, who were normal ponies and leaders of Equestria in this time took the elements and turned him into stone. Because of the lack of a god they turned into gods themselves but with less power because Discord isn't dead, but just prisoned. |

Lauren mentioned that ponies' lifespan is shorter than humans'. This applies to all three races (excluding Celestia/Luna of course). As we know, StarSwirl the Bearded was unicorn thus his lifespan supposed to be normal. When Twi mentioned him, he already called him "The Bearded" and more than that, he called him a "mentor". Obviously, only a pony of high education and with a huge bag of life experience who lived long enough can earn nickname "The Bearded" and status of a mentor. Now, lesse... he lived long enough already before Equestria was made. We can assume that he, probably, lived during some peaceful time before Discord came. If he didn't fell during the times full of chaos then we can assume he lived through the whole Discords reign until Sisters came. Seriously, that is A LOT for male unicorn in his age. The possibility that he actually met Luna is quite low and the whole story seems inconsistent and unstable. Too many question, too few answer and facts to build something on it. Everything else is > fanon. /overanalyzing tl;dr - again, this was just a small, conceptual snippets of the backstory adopted for theatrical play, nothing more. |

Guys. The flag they had in the play is not the same flag as Celestia and Luna. They are DIFFERENT alicorns. Alicorns represent the harmony between ponies. Alicorns have ALL the ponies powers and such embody the harmony of the three. |

Why do people keep saying this contradicts? That's idiotic.
First of all, this is a play, a story. Were the stories told about Nightmare Moon eating ponies true? No? Then why does this one have to be? Second of all, even if it is true, it doesn't contradict anything. First, the three tribes created harmony and came together, THEN Discord showed up and destroyed harmony, THEN Celestia and Luna showed up and created harmony again. How exactly is that contradictory? |

Um, to everyone saying that Luna met Star Swirl the Bearded, I just went back and watched Luna Eclipsed and this was Luna's only line regarding him:
Luna: Star Swirl the Bearded. Commendable costume! Thou even got the bells right. Honestly, all I can see is that Luna simply knows what Star Swirl looks like and that everyone just automatically assumed she knew him personally. |

The flag at the end is a modern flag because the play tells how Equestria came to be.
--- I like to think that either Discord killed Luna and Celestia's parents or that Luna and Celestia were the first alicorns and were born to return harmony to Equestria. This assumes that alicorns can be born from any of the three normal pony races, but occurs rarely and under special conditions. |
