With apologies to Roberto Benigni. If you haven't seen Life Is Beautiful, you may not understand the reference.
I had a discussion with someone the other day about the Element of Laughter. I insist that it is valuable, even in the darkest of times. That is what inspired this picture. |

so, what, is this from a story where the ponies are basically extreme super racists including the equivalent of the marks the nazis put on jews and homosexuals and such?
why would anyone write that |
| Mattatatta #775972 7 months ago |
I think it's actually a reference to Nazis, or at the very least, racism in general. I dunno, never seen "Life is Beautiful" |

From IMDB: Life Is Beautiful (1997) La vita è bella (original title)
"A Jewish man has a wonderful romance with the help of his humour, but must use that same quality to protect his son in a Nazi death camp." |

I remember this movie now, I watched some of it with my brother, the main character and Pinkie Pie share a lot of similarities in that they both find levity in even the darkest situations that's what this story is about not so much the horrors of the Nazi regime, but about how people are able to make any horrible situation better by just staying upbeat. |

That is a great movie. Very sad though. |
| Anonymous #776015 7 months ago |
This was a rather dark thing for me to draw. I almost didn't post it, so I'm glad that at least somepony got the point of it. |
| marioandsonic #776090 7 months ago |
I don't get it... |

marioandsonic, if you read the comments you shall. |

I was like "Oh crap" by the fifth panel. As dark as the movie was, this crossover is nothing short but genius! (wouldn't have minded if Pinkie was Granny Pie instead and Pinkie being little Giosue, but this works too)
Life is Beautiful is an amazing film. As said before me, it's about a fun romance between a Italian couple; an amazingly upbeat Jewish man (represented as Pinkie here) woos the woman, showering her with nothing but romance everyday. Then the Nazi rolled into town and stuff started to go down. Regardless, they had a child and the husband absolutely refuses to let this fact sadden him, even after being sent to the inevitable death camp. Tis a movie everypony should watch; it's funny, it's sad, it's romantic, it's heartbreaking... What else does a pony need? Good gravy. If you decide to keep going with this anon #949, would the tank become a tortoise? |

Dear lord, but the ending. |

*reads descriptions*
I'm never going to watch this movie. And I pray to Celestia that the OP never, ever makes another page of this comic. |
| Anonymous #776582 7 months ago |
When Benigni won an Oscar for it, he went up to the podium and announced in English he wanted to make love to the entire audience. No joke. |

This is really sad but also beautiful.
And now the important part of my comment: DAMN YOU PONY HITLER! DAMN YOU TO PONY HELL! |
| Anonymous #776652 7 months ago |
Great movie, one of the very best. The main character essentially is Pinkie Pie. |
| Anonymous #776658 7 months ago |
>main character essentially is Pinkie Pie
>movie features laughing in Nazi death camps Really, really not watching this movie with some additional not watching this movie, and some not watching this movie on top. OP. Please. I respect what you're trying to do, and I don't hate you for making it. Just please, never ever ever continue this comic. |

even at face of death he made his smile...and the song rode a tank. |

Damn nazi ponies... |

I still have to brave through Life is Beautiful at some point.
As much as Laughter is critical in times when it's hard to laugh, I really hope Pinkie is never put in those situations. |

I've not seen Life is Beautiful at this time, but i'm going to have to look it up.
Times of hardship are when laughter is most necessary, if not easiest to create. |

@Anon 776658
I respect your opinion, after all nothing is for everyone, but it is my opinion that you are missing out on something truly amazing. I think the movie richly deserved every single award that it won. Still, you can rest easy knowing that I have no plans to continue this. Not because anyone told me to, but because my muse was satisfied just making the connection. My muse is quite uncompromising sometimes. |

Watched that movie in school years ago. Ending still makes me tear up. |

I was about to rail on this, but then I got the reference. Perfectly cast comic, great homage to the best Holocaust movie ever, and the only one with a happy ending. |

A great many other nations have granted leadership to equally murderous dictators. Cambodia, Russia and the USSR, China, Vietnam, North Korea, Iraq, Uganda, Yugoslavia, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Turkey, and many more... Yet when we wish to speak of dictators, we think of Hitler. I'd have chosen Lenin. |
| Anonymous #778425 7 months ago |
@Lancer
Who remembers the Armenians? It is true that there are many brutal dictators in the world both past and present. However, this comic is not about dictators or murder, it is about the Element of Laughter. |
| Anonymous #780212 7 months ago |
@408 I think you miss his point, at least if I understood it.
The comic is actually quite good, and makes an interesting statement. We just really, really don't want to see Pinkie Pie in a death camp... |

I think that this does cross a line I can't accept and I can't enjoy it very much because of that. Sorry.
"Life is Beautiful" was an amazing Movie, however. I'd recommend it to everyone here. |
