It's going to pass.

The Internet ends today. Enjoy the final moments.

I'm enjoying the last moments of Internet shopping. Anything with a U.S. counterpart that's protected by U.S. copyrights or patents will get blocked out, even if the patent has expired or the similarity is vaguely slight. I think the "open use license" for using content from any entertainment, even video games would be denied as it must be for a specific product, and to a specific representative, proven by a "Non Compete Disclosure."

Obama said he would veto anything that compromised net neutrality, and it's hard to think of anything that would do more to do that than this. On the other hand, I've frequently discovered my belief in him was misplaced...

Not with an election coming up. He wouldn't take the chance, especially with the way corporations are seen these days.

No, they're just discussing amendments. Not the bill itself.

It's good in the sense that the internet isn't quite dead.

But it looks like it's going to pass anyhow. The amendments are being shot down with broad margins. (Though, not all of them. I think at least one got through.)

That, and Lamar Smith himself put forth an amendment that supposedly wouldn't target domestic sites (I think? Sites ending in .com, .edu, and .net aren't subject to SOPA in his amendment, or something like that).

Even if it's amended to the point of saving our self-interests here, it would establish a nasty precedent of the government deciding what's allowed on the internet. It can't be allowed.

^Let's just hope that Obama doesn't let it pass at the end. I mean, I'm not an American citizen, but if this bill passes somehow, it's going to be a precedent that many countries will start to do. Oh boy...better get started on using the blacknet.

^Obama'll back off on it.

I hope he proves me wrong, but he's disappointed the people that elected him into power.

Well, it looks like they more or less gave up on debating it further, adjourning the committee without setting a further date. It might not see the light of day until late January from what I've heard.

This isn't a victory, though. This is mere reprieve. Remain vigilant!

^Never mind that. It'll be the upcoming Wednesday.
