Reminds me of that fanfic where Spike outlives Rarity and he has her corpse stuffed by a taxidermist for him to have.

Actually, I think in that fic Rarity and Spike agree to have her paralyzed by a cockatrice, so that she is frozen as a beautiful work of art. For many millenia, she is appraised as the centerpiece of Spike's hoard. On the last day of Spike's life, he has her unfrozen, and they spend their final hours together. Celestia then incinerates the hoard along with their remains, using dragon magic to bind the ash into a new dragon egg, starting the cycle all over again.
