I've concluded that pony winter attire are purely aesthetic and not for keeping them warm.

they have fur, so if they're going to wear anything it should probly be some kind of hoofwear because that's the only part of the body that regularly has contact with the snow, so it would be the coldest

Having fur doesn't mean that they are completely safe from cold weather. Especially with such short coats. Animals in general don't like to be in the cold and would find ways to stay warm. Even wild animals can't stay out for long without freezing to death. I learned this some years ago.

And trust me, nothing is more depressing than going outside to find a dead kitten next to the garden fence. Its face pressed up to a wooden post trying to keep it warm as its body slowly becomes frozen solid. It was a very depressing Christmas Eve.

no, fur doesn't make Frost Resistance +100% because then it would be OP.

i meant perhaps it's only cold enough that they'd want to clothe the coldest parts of themselves, the hooves, which touch the cold snow.

Someone should mention that horses grow a winter coat and shed in the spring. Its probably not that bad for them.
