The Cutie Mark Crusaders and the Temperance Arcana
The word Temperance basically means, “All things in moderation.” Too much of one thing is never good, so achieving a decent balance of activities creates a healthy lifestyle. The Arcana itself represents “synthesis, prudence, harmony, and the merging of opposites.” In the games, the characters of the Temperence Arcana were overcoming a struggle with opposing views within family. Bebe, the foreign exchange student from France, was being pressured by his Uncle to return home after the death of his Aunt. Since the game takes place in Japan, the merging of opposites can be seen with a growing friendship from two cultures. Eri, the simple stepmother to a young child, felt as though she would never be accepted or loved by the boy and seemed to have given up truly bonding with him. Over time, Eri realizes both her and her step-son have to meet each other halfway when it comes to understanding one another and can’t expect to be loved right off the bat. The CMC fit into Temperance with their knack for trying new things in the pursuit of finding their calling. The three foals don’t stick to one activity for too long, and yet, they also manage to ironically indulge too much into one thing: their obsession with earning their Cutie Marks and growing up. Wanting to fit in and be seen as grown up is a natural tendency for young children, especially the impatience of wanting to be grown up now. The CMC manage to demonstrate both sides of the scale of Temperance at the same time, and whether or not that in itself is a decent balance is up for debate. I wouldn’t mind this Social Link showing the girls’ different attempts to find their calling with a new activity at each visit. |

@795190 Now that you mention it The devil can represent (to quote TVTropes); "the urge to do selfish, impulsive, violent things and be a slave to one's own impulses."
Given his actions are for his own amusement with no respect to anyone else, this works somewhat. |
