I agree with anon 2 also I don't cry over fanfiction that's just silly
That's crying over something that never happened within something that never happened it's double fiction Although I will say it is probably a great story to get such a reaction |

Yeah, I don't really have time for a phone book sized original post-apoc story with copyrighted names and horse puns to draw attention.
I've read fanfiction that made me pretty teary-eyed, though. |

let it be said that this fic- no, this legend, makes me feel an overwhelming sense of pride in this fandom. yeah sure, we got our fair share of sick fucks, but so does everyone else. we also have the most amazing authors of any fandom ever. Fo:E transcends the sum of its unlikely parts, it isn't just a fanfic. It's... I don't have a name for what this story is. those who have the balls to sit down and weather the colossal word count are in for a treat. you will be hard pressed to find another work of fan fiction this good. |

| Xeneres #770157 7 months ago |
@098
but can an english lit major really appreciate a story for what it really is? even after being thought what makes a story good? after loosing the majority of your personal opinion to pre-made criteria forced into you? you cant deny it, the studies make you see evry little "flaw" and "imperfection" and makes people use these to degrade a story, when these flaws are, to most people, what makes the story's charm. Sure, you can judge the quality of a story in a seccond and better than anyone here ever will at that, but is "quality" what makes a story good? There is a reason why I vowed never to study art under any form, at least not in a scholar maner. Most people prefer pizza to caviar, remember that. |

Xeneres: I don't know. I majored in art and took all the courses for a minor in English Literature except for the foreign language requirements (yes, my university required foreign language classes for an English major), and I think I turned out all right.
YouCloppin: "consider" is not how you spell assume. Most if not all of the detractors have either never read the story, or only read a few chapters. In the case of the former, they have no valid opinion and can be ignored. In the case of the latter, they are very much like those people who dump on MLP:FiM and claim they have an informed opinion because they watched the first episode almost all the way through. They are entitled to their opinions. PikaRobo: there will be. |
| Anonymous #770874 7 months ago |
>opinions are only valid when they agree with mine |
| Kkat #770895 7 months ago |
Opinions are valid only when based on actual knowledge of the topic.

It's funny really, when you think about it having these ponies in such a world where it's all gone fallout actually adds to the drama.
Oh it was a shocker for sure, we get this crazy awesome buildup with jokes and action abound and then right at the end. Well, I don't know how it could continue but I just hope it doesn't turn out like a half life never-ending. I didn't realise that Kkat just joined the discussion but I'll say this. I don't like fan fiction per sey but you've pretty much converted me. I mean, how many fanfics can you name have someone offering an audiobook? I can tolerate it at most now. |
| DSF66 #770970 7 months ago |
I love Fallout series (mostly 2nd game, 3rd one and NW is just meh IMO, I won't go deep into that).
I love MLP:FIM (cpt Obvious to the rescue!). But mixing them up? No thanks. I like both of the things but for the reasons completely opposite to each other. Fallout a is dark, cruel post-nuclear universe filled with horrible dangers. And it's exciting to submerge into! Ponies are light, cute and kind. They are really good for recreation and taking off day stress. So I want to explore something dark and dangerous or kill some critters - I go for Fallout (or *insert any other grimdark game here*), I want something nice and cute - I go for the ponies. I didn't start all this rant for nothing as I am really interested for a long time why do some people like to mix the opposites? It's like I love cakes and I also love roast-beef under chilli sauce but they don't really go well together, or did I miss something? |
| DSF66 #770998 7 months ago |
Also before people start calling me a "hater which didn't read the story" - I don't hate it as I don't read fanfiction at all, but I am curious about some things around it :P |
| Kkat #771043 7 months ago |
I'll admit, when first conceived of the story, it was out of a sheer "can I do this?" self-challenge. Could the two worlds be blended in a way that stayed truthful and reverent to MLP:FiM?
But as I started writing, I realized that I had the opportunity to do something much more than that with Fallout: Equestria. I had the chance to write a story that was truly moving and truly epic -- a story with depth and meaning. Even still, I was surprised I had any readers, much less the massive following and the subsequent outpouring of fan-work. The fact that this story has pulled people into the MLP:FiM fandom is amazing. (Not to mention the number of people who have given the games a try because of Fallout: Equestria.) It would have been worth all the work to just inspire one other person to try the joy of writing; instead, it's inspired dozens of side-stories. And I was truly rocked to learn that the story has had a positive impact in some people's lives. (I cannot express how I felt to learn that Fallout: Equestria drove one brony to re-examine how his drug use was effecting his loved ones, and seek help.) Fallout: Equestria is a MLP story at its core. It is a story about the meaning of virtue and the power and necessity of friendship. |

#770970:
To put it simply, not everyone enjoys mlp the way we do. The content they want and the content they want is completely different. What drives them to want content completely different from the show? Nothing, it's just their normal tastes. They like this or that, so they implement it on this other thing they like. My opinion is that they aren't really fans of the show in it's normal form, just the content loosely based on it. |
| Scootsmod #771112 7 months ago |
*The content we want and the content they want is different |
| Kkat #771116 7 months ago |
Long story short (<--- and I really have no right to say those words, do I?), I fully understand the prejudice that most people will naturally experience at the concept of Fallout: Equestria. I can't blame them for their reaction. It's... MLP and Fallout, for chrissake. How could it possibly be good?
When I point out the fallacy of "haters who don't read the story", it's not without personal experience. The behavior of a lot of the people is pretty much exactly the way I acted towards bronies before one of my brony friends (who I had mocked ceaselessly) finally persuaded me that I had to actually watch the show -- at least a handful of episodes -- before I had a place to mock him. (And he insisted that if I still felt the same way after five episodes, he'd accept it and take it.) Well, you can see how that turned out. Same thing seems to be the case for a vast majority of the readers of Fallout: Equestria. Another example: I have never read the sparkly-vampired Twilight series. I've heard about it, researched it a little on the web, read very negative reviews on it... and absolutely everything I have learned about it tells me that I would *not* enjoy those stories one single bit. So I'm not going to read them. Ever. But I don't hang around on message boards bashing the Twilight series because I am smart enough to recognize that, without having been willing to even try the story, my opinions on it don't have any merit. tl;dr I get the hate. And it doesn't bother me. It's rather expected. But it is hate out of ignorance and mindless sheep-dom, and occasionally I will call it on that. |
| DSF66 #771124 7 months ago |
#771043
Interesting indeed. Well that's a true spirit of the writer you have here, I admit. Writing for self-challenge, writing to express your thoughts, not to gain popularity or anything. Even though I am rather cold with fan-fiction in general, I can respect that :) Alright, I think I got answers I needed at least the view from the writer perspective. Keep up the good work! |

So I ask you take the opinions of haters with a grain of salt. They have a vested interest in believing that those who love the story are somehow "inferior". I can't speak for readers, whether of grimdark fan-fictions or fan-fiction in general. But I know that Scootsmod's assumption doesn't apply to me. I love MLP:FiM for what it is, the way it is. Honestly, I wouldn't have been able to write a story with the scope and heart of Fallout: Equestria if I did not. Writing this story has required both a love of the characters and setting, and a studious examination of them, that I suspect bronies like Scootsmod may not really be capable of. |

| Scootsmod #771417 7 months ago |
Also:
>Writing this story has required both a love of the characters and setting, and a studious examination of them, that I suspect bronies like Scootsmod may not really be capable of. You... don't read my blog, and that's my guess. I've written pages long studies on Scootaloo, her motivations and what her actions in the show imply. I find it a low and uninformed blow to try and attack my dedication to understanding the setting and characters as part of your argument. Which, again, is arguing against something i stated was my opinion. |
| Kkat #771422 7 months ago |
Scootsmod: Completely fair. I wasn't attempting to debunk your opinion, merely to point out that, at least in my case, it was inaccurate. And thus it should be viewed as a just what it is: an opinion.
YouCloppin: Assuming you mean me, then I will point out that I do indeed not only accept criticism but use it to make my stories better. Thousands of examples of this are readily available in the comments of Fallout: Equestria, and the story is immeasurably better thanks to fan input and critiques. The difference is that am dismissive of baseless, uninformed criticism. If you had been reading the story, and offering suggestions on how to make it better as each chapter came out, I have no doubt your opinions would have actually had impact. But you didn't. So don't complain that I consider your voice in the matter as worthless as it is. ^.^ PS: I too support Gentlecloopingscoots. The name alone is full of perverted win. |

On a tangential note, your examinations of Scootaloo rather make me wish you would read at least the first seventeen chapters of Fallout: Equestria, as well as the beginning of Chapter Twenty-Nine, so that I could hear your analysis of Scootaloo as I used her in the story, and whether or not I did her justice. |
| Scootsmod #771497 7 months ago |
#771452:
And then, you went on to attack me PERSONALLY for holding an OPINION that is general and not directed at you. As in: If it doesn't apply to you, then it doesn't include you. Not only that, you are misinterpreting the opinion in question and assigning it a corrupted meaning. This: >They aren't really fans of the show in it's normal form, just the content loosely based on it. Isn't this: >They aren't true fans of the show and don't have a grasp of the actual content. What my line means is simply: "They aren't purists and don't mind adding things that don't belong in the setting" What you are reading is:... It seems those who haven't played Fallout will try to read this story and take it as a serious grimdark angsty thing, and try to rag on it for that. It really would help to know the source material better. |

Yeah, that. I'm sorry Twist, I suppose I just had a little trouble saying what I felt. You're still my favorite pony. Always will be. Every episode I pray you'll get another line. Every piece of fanart lifts my heart. Did you know you are my very... Best... *Sniff* Hug? |

At the very least, Pip is now pretty much omniscient. Once she settles into her new "form", there's no reason why she can't just take control of a robot somewhere and use it as a proxy to walk the Wasteland once again. It won't be Littlepip in the flesh, but she won't be gone forever either. She's basically Mr. House now, only with god powers. |

@DFS66:
Here is a quote from the Fallout Equestria chat log that might help explain: "You know, Kkat, your story takes a bit of everyone's personality and makes us dive into the world of the Wasteland. Many people have broken down over your characters because they reflect what we are or what we wish we could be. After all, many people like Ponies because they reflect a society we will probably never have. And this adventure is the story of the sacrifice everyone would be willing to make in order to bring Equestria (or its harmony) to this wretched world. Thank you, this proves that within every human being there may be hope." |
