Seriously though, I like how Celestia's holding him back from delivering a lethal blow, both as a sign of restraint and mercy, as well as keeping Aquilinus from losing control of himself. It's very likely that he would turn the attacker into a red paste if not for her. |

The gold apple is being worn by the person who attacked Aquilinus/Celestia. In greek mythology, Eris, the goddess of discord, threw a solid gold apple with the words "For the Fairest" before Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite, who immediately started arguing over who should get it, and led to a series of events triggering the Trojan War. Therefore the gold apple is the symbol for Discord, and the figure being pummeled is likely a follower of Discord/chaos. |

As I said in the prequel to this comic, the alicorns may be powerful, but they are not invincible. Think of it this way: Jesus was both the Son of God and God Himself in mortal form. Emphasis on MORTAL. Jesus may have been capable of miracles, but all it took was a spear in the chest to kill him. As for the apple, it's the symbol of The Order of the Golden Apple. It's funny because all of the tumblrs portray the Royal Guard as finely-honed killing machines, meting out swift death to innumerable enemies which threaten Equestria on a daily basis.
Meanwhile, the guards in the show fail at anything that doesn't involve pulling a chariot or guarding a doorway. |
