Averted. He CAN get presents, as long as he doesn't get greedy. Doubly so, since he feels so bad about his actions, he likely won't go down that road again. |

I think he will be alright. Part of his problem is that he never experienced getting more than a book for a present. Since he (hopefully) knows how to deal with this and how to avoid going off the deep end, subsequent birthdays should get easier. |

Could just give him services instead of gifts. Or maybe expendable gifts, like the cupcake, are okay.
