I thought that someone said the episodes can be viewed in any order, with the exception of two-parters.
There's a term for it, I just can't think of it |
| RAMMSTEIN45 #758689 7 months ago |
...Your point being...? |
| Dale #758691 7 months ago |
We already know that the episodes are not produced and aired in the order they happen, necessarily, but this tidies up two things:
1) Luna waiting so damn long to reappear. Nope, that was the first Nightmare Night after her return. 2) Rarity being seen with Blueblood. Nope, 'Sweet and Elite' happens before the Gala, Blublood managed to keep his veneer of gentlecoltness in place long enough to get through the ceremony, impressing Rarity and setting up the disaster at the Gala itself. (unless I forgot about a concrete reference in 'Sweet and Elite' to the Gala being in the past). |
| Mortal-Killer #758694 7 months ago |
he could have had a birthday before he and twilight left for ponyville
it would make it around a year later |
| Sgt_Derpy #758695 7 months ago |
Or it's like MASH and they jump all over the place when it comes to a set date. |
| marioandsonic #758696 7 months ago |
Summer Sun Celebration during the pilot
Winter Wrap Up then happened during Season 1. Hearth's Warming Eve will take place next week. ... TIME PARADOX |
| gashunk #758697 7 months ago |
yeah, I just assumed that the the only real set chronology is the season premiers and finales. |
| Harlequin_Jester #758704 7 months ago |
^ There's one problem with that theory at the end of Sweet and Elite Rarity writes the friendship report to Celestia, but up until Lesson Zero only Twilight wrote letters to Celestia, so in order for your theory to work every episode after Lesson Zero would have to take place before the Gala. |
| Harlequin_Jester #758705 7 months ago |
My last comment was meant for Dale I got ultra-ninja'd. |
| Dale #758706 7 months ago |
That's all fair enough for you guys. This honestly /doesn't/ matter for most people. But I know there's a lot of ficcer types particularly who automatically assumed we were now in year two and have been occasionally gone into somewhat convoluted explanations based on the assumption that an episode in season 2 must have come after anything in season 1. |
| Dale #758716 7 months ago |
@Harlequin_Jester - no, it only necessitates that Lesson Zero also happened before the Gala. Every other episode with ponies other than Twilight writing must take place after Lesson Zero, but that implies nothing about their relationship in time with any other episode. |
| Mattatatta #758728 7 months ago |
The way I see it is that any episode in Season 2 that has a character other than Twilight have a letter written automatically means that the episode occurs after Lesson Zero.
Where Lesson Zero sits in chronology, however, is the real question. |
| FeralSocks018 #758733 7 months ago |
I just assume that the episodes are released in proper chronological order. |
| Dragoon #758737 7 months ago |
DOCUMENTING!!! (Okay I'll stop [maybe], being tired is making me do weird things)
![]() |
| Anonymous #758738 7 months ago |
The only real chronology is that anything that happened in season 1 is before the events of season 2.
I realize the writers might not consider time all too much during a season, but come the fuck on, I'm pretty sure after all the months we've had after season 1, they're not gonna make a season 2 episode take place in the past unless it's a giant flashback. |

| BattleGT #758742 7 months ago |
Sweet and Elite happened after the Gala someone pointed out Cracks in the pillars from the Disaster. And quite frankly all ponies other than twilight giving a friendship report suggests it's not during season one.
Also Mario Hearth Warming is a annual holiday so I don't believe this would be a time paradox. |
| DooFashion #758744 7 months ago |
Season 2 begins after the gala.
Best Pet ever seems to be latest chronologically at least. No tank in Mare-do-well, and who is watching him while Rainbow Dash is away? Who is watching Gummy for that matter? Maybe the two of them are on a playdate together in pinkie's bathtub. Well maybe, season 2 has ALL the letter when twilight was greyed, at least those episodes mentioned have to take place. |
| BattleGT #758747 7 months ago |
And let's be honest everyone's head is full of apples trying to get a chronological order. |
| Anonymous #758751 7 months ago |
This means that only a single year has passed since the mane cast got their cutie marks, since the sonic rain-boom helped twi hatch spike. I guess the show uses realistic pony life cycles. |
| Anonymous #758753 7 months ago |
Lesson Zero could occur immediately after the defeat of Nightmare Moon, and it just so happens that only Twi's letters were shown in Season 1 for all we know. |
| Dragoon #758770 7 months ago |
Isn't this discussion more of this is my opinion on how the show story order goes because that's what it is sounding like to me |
| DooFashion #758771 7 months ago |
@758751 Spike mentions other birthdays... but it was only Twilight and him, and she always got him a book. |
| BattleGT #758774 7 months ago |
@ Dragoon Sounds like it to me |
| Dale #758780 7 months ago |
My entire and whole purpose was to point out that the events of this episode happen in year one to people who write stuff that refers to the events of the episodes, because I've seen a lot of assuming that this is a whole new year. |
| FeralSocks018 #758825 7 months ago |
#758751
That was a flashback. It happened in the past. |
| Anonymous #758839 7 months ago |
This was already dead in season 1, winter wrap up happened before fall weather friends. |
| DeeperMadness #758841 7 months ago |
It's not entirely impossible he'd only just had his birthday before heading to Ponyville in Season 1. After all, he had the bits to buy that mare a present for her own birthday.
Failing that, he might even have gone back to Canterlot and had a birthday party with Twilight and her parents, seeing as they're the only family he's got. |
| Anoymous #758845 7 months ago |
Just throwing this out, but I'd say "The Cutie Pox" takes place before "Luna Eclipse." When Zecora arrives in Ponyville after everyone's hiding from Applebloom, she compares it to the "last time" she was there which would have to refer to "Bridle Gossip", even though her last appearance in Ponyville was in "Luna Eclipse" where everyone was treating her like normal. |
| WhereCTKits #758898 7 months ago |
Something of note: If there wasn't a one-week break between "Luna Eclipsed" and "Sisterhooves Social", this episode would have premiered on December 3.
On that date one year ago was a Season 1 Episode of FiM called "Look Before You Sleep". What's so unique about this episode? Well, this was the first episode to exclude some of the main characters in appearance, including SPIKE. Interestingly, he is still mentioned in the episode as being in Canterlot on "royal business". True, the whole timeline is already screwed up, but this note it interesting nonetheless. |
| SorasTG #759004 7 months ago |
There is no timeline but Dale Sweet and Elite is post Gala. There's way to much material in Best Night Ever that only works if the ponies haven't been there before. |
| applebeans #759039 7 months ago |
not really, his birthday could have already passed by the time they first arrived in ponyville |
| Anonymous #759098 7 months ago |
S1 & S2 takes place in 9 months from spring to fall. |
| CrayonPonies #759278 7 months ago |
Somebody needs to set out the episodes in chronological order. |
| Stank #759292 7 months ago |
Hey, has anyone asked the staff members of FiM about continuity? I'd like to hear their opinions. |
| Anonymous #759552 7 months ago |
Best Night Ever happens at the end of S2? |
| fiddlewheel #759565 7 months ago |
but they did have a whole winter in season 1, Winter Wrap up? where does that happen chronologically? or is that a "future-sight episode"? |
| Anonymous #760362 7 months ago |
Twilight gave Spike books for presents, remember? He lived in ponyville for several years |
| Panzerpferd #760572 7 months ago |
^No, he lived in Canterlot for several years. They only recently moved to Ponyville. |
| benger #760946 7 months ago |
maybe they were out of ponyville for his first birthday, |
