Today's episode deftly turned what was your standard unrequitable little-kid crush on a grown-up into a legitimate potential relationship. Spike has been "a baby dragon" for most of Twilight's life, and now it's established that he will be young forever, kind of like a teen vampire, as long as his regimen of servitude and discipline halts his natural development into a monster. If and when he reaches a level of emotional maturity at which it is morally plausible for Rarity to return his affection as an equal, he will look exactly as he does now, which means it can happen in the show (albeit only within the bounds of Standards and Practices). |
