Yeah, the episodes seem to have weak continuity references between them but not in any kind of chronological order.
You could even say that the S2 episodes happened before they attended their first gala. Spike's still gonna fawn over Rarity in episodes after this and that alone will keep the ship alive. |

You know what else this reminds me of? Near the end of Eureka 7 where Anemone and Dominic were falling and Dominic was trying to yell to Anemone that he loved her and she was yelling back that she couldn't hear him over the wind. And then they were saved at the last minute too. |
