Spike's the kid brother that Twilight never had. Even though you may love your little brother, you don't want him be in the way when you're having private time with your friends.
Of course, Spike probably doesn't have any friends other than them in the whole world (even if colts could work as teen dragon substitutes his only options are Snips and Snails), but TS probably decided that's his problem. Spike has a lot of hobbies by the way that are reminiscent of a kid's who has to spend a lot of time playing alone. |

Ok for the first it is supposed to be a pony thing i understand Spike usually hangs out with the girls but I am pretty sure call of the cutie focus's mainly on the ponies and since Spike isn't well ya know that much of a mane character he doesn't need to be in that ep. Second was all about RD and trying to prove to old bullies that she still has the moves so Spike being there would be useless. Third I got nothing. Fourth I dunno it was all about gummy at first I doubt he could care less for Gummy how ever he did go to Pinkie's birthday. Five last I checked Twilight said having a picnic with the GIRLS. Six that scene was like 50 seconds long who cares. Ok seven was just cruel come on BFF's since the day you were born and you don't even get invited to her party? that is super cruel. That is my opinion deal with it |

You might also consider this: Spike was away at Canterlot on Royal Business, leaving Twilight all alone that night on the sleepover episode. It's probably fair to say he has a major role off screen to Twilight's learning process.
He is a dragon, and as such he possesses great wisdom even as a wyrmling, such as when he told Twilight that using her magic to show up Trixie would be different than showing off, because it would be standing up for her friends. |

Spike is away on royal buisiness. Its easy to forget these two characters are actually members of high society from Canterlot and Twilight is the personal protege of Princess Celestia. So while Twilight may be doing this weird friendship assignment Spike has shit to do back and forth from Canterlot, likely filling detailed reports, getting supplies *which we have seen him gathering supplies in Ponyville, but some stuff like lab stuff he'd likely need to go to bigger cities to get*. He's a busy sla...uh...personal attendant. |

^ Supported by Faust's headcanon. Spike may be Twilight's assistant, but he works for Celestia. Given the rarity (hur hur) of having a young dragon for a courtier, Celestia probably has him doing all sorts of stuff besides helping Twi. |
