For those unfamiliar with this masterpeice of political philosophy, The Prince shows how one is to stay in power as a monarch, without such useless tendencies such as mercy and morality. From this book comes such immortal quotes as "The end justifies the means," and "it is better to be feared than loved" This fits with the fandoms interpretation so well, I considered rewriting it with Equestrian examples instead of ancient history. Would like to see a positive reaction beforehand, though. |

Machiavelli also didn't believe a damn word he wrote. He only did it to stay in good graces with the Medici (honestly a good reason all things considered.)
Machiavelli was an ardent believer in liberal democracy, but this tends to get lost by the fact that a number of bastards (Stalin, Hitler, basically every terrorist group ever) like to use "the ends justify the means" unironically. |

I'm very annoyed by all those who insist that this book is a satire. I'm even more annoyed by those that keep repeating the quotes from the "blind idiot translation" of the book.
Machiavelli did not believe in democracy, he believed in the republican form of government which has nothing to with what we in the modern era would call democracy. |
