To all wondering what Kwanzaa is, it's basically a week long, universal African-American celebration (held between December 26 and January 1) honoring African/Black heritage, culture and tradition. On each of the seven days, a candle is lit. The candles represent Unity, Self-Determination, Collective Work and Responsibility, Family, Creativity, and Faith respectively. On the seventh day, all then celebrate with a feast and gift-giving.
So yeah, to us, it's basically Thanksgiving and Christmas combined. (I don't practice it myself, but I wouldn't mind doing it one day.) |

For the record, it's not from Africa. Kwanzaa was invented in the 70s by Maulana Karenga, a radical in the black power movement who served time for torturing two women. (Sorry, the holiday may have improved, but the guy who created it was not a nice person.) |

Oh God, please don't let Zecora celebrate Kwanzaa. I appreciate the sentiment, but I just couldn't get into the holiday. It just doesn't have the same cultural or spiritual impact for me. Plus there's the fact that Zecora is supposed to be an "African" immigrant. Would she even want to celebrate the holiday? |

People celebrate Kwanzaa? I swear no Black person does. |
