Creative team not allowed to read fanfics, copyright issues, yadda yadda yadda |
| Krek #746591 7 months ago |
Probably for the best.
Who knows what evils could be unleashed from the Pandora's Box of fanfiction if the development team caught wind of it? |

@anon1 Why wouldn't they be allowed to read a fanfic? Acknowledging or referencing them I could understand but if they want to read something based off their work on their own time just because that should be their business. |
| Anonymous #746606 7 months ago |
@Krek Damn straight.
Heaven forbid that they come near Cupcakes or any of that shit. |
| Anonymous #746615 7 months ago |
Western: They're not allowed to say they read fanfics, because if they used an idea that also came up in a fanfic, theoretically the fanfic writer could sue them for using his or her idea.
Although if anyone actually tried that lawsuit, I don't even want to think about what might happen to that poor sumbitch... |

| Anonymous #746629 7 months ago |
I can't believe they have to keep reminding them:
>Jayson Thiessen said it >Lauren said it Do we have to write it out in burning letters across a city for them to get it? |
| Anonymous #746636 7 months ago |
^ There's always those Chris Chan delusionists who think their fic will inspire the writers to turn it into an episode. |
| Anonymous #746637 7 months ago |
I'll make a stab at it:
No television show's writing team is allowed to read fanfics. Ever. |
| liquidXTC #746638 7 months ago |
@615
One could? I mean couldn't the MLP team/Hasbro sue them for writing something based of their own work? And I'm also sure I heard an interview where someone from the team was asked if they knew cupcakes and he/she was like "ewww" but didn't dare to say more. |

As a fanfic writer-
THANK GOD. |

A much more interesting question would be "have any of the FiM team written any fanfics?"
Writing inside that ei rating thing must be frustrating. I wonder if any of them decided to write something crazy-grimdark just for a change of pace, and then post it anonymously and laugh hysterically when people comment "OMG whut you do to MY ponies! FiM team would hate you!". |
| Nintendude070 #746672 7 months ago |
Hey! I asked that question! |
| HeinousActsZX #746681 7 months ago |
Oh, man.
I'm sorry but I laughed my ass off. Especially at the "word_of_no_shit" tag. |

There are still idiots asking this question?
I am disappoint. |

100 years of movies and 60 years of television have set an unfortunate precedent. Accepting unsolicited work open up a HUGE liability for the studio.
Many, many, many people not employed by a given studio have given permission to use their work. Or the studio would claim to have permission. The original owner of the creative work then decides they want more money, or the work was not used with permission, and for one reason or another decides to sue the studio. This creates a huge legal headache and liability to the company. Seeing as these shows aren't running with an unlimited budget, just one lawsuit could really undermine the studio's ability to produce a given show or shows. Thus, studios generally have strict rules about not accepting unsolicited submissions. They would rather simply avoid this liability altogether. While not every studio lists such a policy on their web site, it generally reads and functions like the Pixar policy, below: Pixar does not accept any kind of creative submission. All of Pixar's ideas and stories are developed internally and it is our policy not to look at any external submissions. For legal reasons we automatically return all creative material (scripts, synopses, sketches, etc) unopened and unread... Also, with the sheer volume of fan fics the fandom has produced we're bound to see some coincidences. |
