Not that I endorse this ship, but I feel like Fluttershy and Applejack need more interaction in the show. The only episode where I remember them even having a significant amount was in Applebuck season when Applejack accidentally scares all the bunnies. |

I don't really see this picture as shipping. They're more like two sisters, and they're just helping each other wash up because they are trusting enough in each other's friendship to do that. I guess my mind just isn't in the gutter that much these days... |

Also, it's not unusual for girls to take bathes together in Japan, and it's a fairly common social activity for family members and close friends because their attitudes about nudity are different from the ones in the west. Ponies don't even have a concept of nudity, and social bathing seems to be common (Pinkie Pie giving Twilight a bath in Pinkie Keen, and the Mane 6 taking a bath together in a communal tub in Bridle Gossip). |

Shipping isn't implicitly "mind in the gutter" material. Is this somehow limited to only being foreplay, not a scene of trust and caring, if their relationship is also romantic?
It's the 'washing her hair' part, I think. Even with Twilight in her bathtub, Pinkie was just kind of...hanging out. Applejack is actually washing Fluttershy here. It could go either way, but I don't really think the idea of falling in love is dirty. |

Humans help wash each other in social bathing settings, too. It's not a sexual or romantic thing unless you make it that way. Keep in mind that for non-unicorns, bathing alone is probably bothersome since they have limited flexibility. It's hard enough for us humans to wash our own backs, and for ponies it would be even moreso.
Looking at it from a totally objective POV with no shipping goggles, if Applejack offered to take a bath with Fluttershy or vise-a-verse she would probably accept simply because it's an effective way to get clean, and like the spa it's an opportunity to spend time together in a relaxed setting. As stated above, in Japan if two girls who are good friends or relatives decide to take a bath together, it's considered a social activity, not a romantic one. In addition to saving water, it's an opportunity to have conversations, and having someone to help with the tough-to-reach spots is convenient. Looking at it from the lens of a culture with a lot of nudity taboos, yeah, two girls washing each other is easy to misinterpret as something sensual. However, to a culture where it’s a common occurrence, it's just two girls cleaning each other. |

The reason that Japan is that way is because they have different attitudes about nudity than the west (especially America). Ponies don't even have a concept of nudity, so why would something like this be considered an act of intimacy, especially when it's been established that social bathing is normal in the show? |
