He favors apple pie because of its texture, moisture and viscosity, to bring down middle (pony sized) to relatively big creatures (manticore sized) with the least amount of casualties and pie crust. Where to aim, how much strength apply, and the temperature itself (of the pie) are the variables that a professional pie warrior must know before any battle. ... ... ...
