I agree OP, that was the best episode ever.

Rarity is the best pony, and I was of those who thought that the Mare Do Well episode was too harsh with Dash, but I have to agree with this one.

Rarity is awesome because she solves her own problems.

She did kind of confess in the end, it just wasn't an issue with anyone at the party. I think the moral was similar to Lesson Zero, myself. Rarity just needed to have a little more faith in her friends, both old and new. It is kind of fishy that she got away with it without any consequences, but the fact that she did didn't seem to sit well with her, and there the lesson is learned.

She felt bad about doing it. I think people need to hop off on wanting rarity to get her comeuppance.

Unlike the previous episode, of course, with an absolutely horrible moral. "Never talk to your friends about their problems face-to-face. Instead, plot an elaborate scheme behind their back to publicly humiliate them and teach them a lesson in humility."

Everything was likely resolved after the episode. They didn't have that much time to actually fix things in the show itself. If they did, it would've cut heavily into the ep.

Mare Do Well's 'moral' was twice as poorly delivered, but I can't remember something like this for the rubbish Rainbow got away with. They're still animated characters, so whatever.

Does none of the people who make these stupid things ever realize that the ponies punish THEMSELVES about a dozen times worse than anyone else could?

Rarity runs herself through the wringer trying to live the lie, is pushed to the point of a meltdown when the other Mane Sixers go to the garden party, and practically collapses with relief when things DON'T fall down around her ears.

Did she NEED further reprimanding?

It was a double whammey. Not only did Rarity show her own ability to solve issues herself without encouragement (something she also hinted at when she showed how empathetic she was about Rainbow Dash's fears ahead of the Best Young Flyers competition), but you also had Fancypants demonstrating that not all of Canterlot (or at least the upper classes that live there; Pony Joe is assumed to be a working class resident) is stuck up or condescending.

A great episode, all told.

this is either trolling or the person who made this needs to get a life and stop picking apart childrens cartoons.

She got lucky, that's it
If Fancypants hadn't intervened, she would've paid the price for her lies.

Just because she told the truth off-screen doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I suppose it could have been like Ben 10, where a couple kids sneaking into a warehouse to steal a videogame results in the fucking SWAT team busting through the windows and breaking out the helicopters just to stop them.

Or we could acknowledge that the world doesn't turn against us just because we fuck up, and sometimes we can get away with being less than stellar people.

Just World phenomenon. People are annoyed because "bad things didn't happen to bad people."

Rarity is best pony, y'all just jelly of her swagger.

Very well said 968. I also have no problem with everyone being forgiving and letting the best pony ever make mistakes.

Not that I'm trying to beat on Rarity or the episode, but she only "learned her lesson" after everything had gone to hell and she could no longer get away with her lie.

I too have wondered how the episode would have ended if Rarity's friends really knew what she had done. Maybe if they had more time, they might have worked that in somehow?

I agree that we sould forgive Rarity even if she get out easy. I'm just a bit annoyed because I've been saying the same thing about Dash since the previous episode, but most people keep saying that she got what she deserved.

The difference between Rarity and Rainbow Dash is Rarity will listen to people.

Rainbow Dash still attacked AJ in the race episode even after TS told her she just tripped.

RD is a bitch, At least Rarity lied to make her biggest dream come true. And copped to it at the end without being told. Even at the end of mare-do-well RD had to be flat out told by everyone she was being a bitch before she realized it.

And the CMC still haven't been punished for unleashing Discord, so Context.

And let's not let Twilight and Co. off so easy.

They did the same thing they did in suited for success when they second guessed rarity and embarrassed her in front of the fancy folks. It's not like Rarity would Sabotage AJ's apple sales or RD Wonderbold audition.

She even Helped Fluttershy when FS was living Rarity's dream.

Yeah that's pretty much my only "complain" about this episode. The total lack of consequences.
But ... it's okay, 22 minutes don't offer much room to make a big drama out of it. It would've been nice if Rarity admitted these lies and everyone would just say "Well that wasn't necessary" and be done with it.

But I still totally love this episode !

Think about Applejack; what's the point of being the Element of Honesty if nopony ever tells a lie anyway?

fonypag: The lies she told were in the interest of not wanting to let down her friends or the socialites who were suddenly expecting her to behave as part of their society. Real life people do this all the time, not to be malicious, but because we want to please everyone when we're presented with mutually exclusive choices, but can't.

The important thing is that when it really mattered, she didn't desert her friends.

Well, after reading these comments, I'm proud of you, fanbase.

You were actually able to interpret the episode better than I thought you would. Rarity's lies were bad, but she realized that on her own. Life works that way too, where we do some bad things, get away with them, but feel so horrible about them that we try to make up for them and make sure they never happen again.

Rarity is like one of those few individuals who is capable of doing such a thing, and that's part of the many reasons why she's also my favorite pony.

My problem is that the first lie was completely unnecessary, not to mention thoroughly insulting.

"Who is this 'Rainbow Dash'?"

Option A: The truth, "Rainbow Dash is a friend of mine." Done.

Option B: MORE truth, "Rainbow Dash won last year's Best Young Fliers competition. She personally saved the lives of 3 of the Wonderbolts (and myself). She is the only living pony capable of performing the legendary Sonic Rainboom (perhaps you've heard of it?) She's also one of Equestria's greatest heroes. If you look carefully at the palace, there's a window in the Hall of Heroes that shows a depiction of her (she's down and to the right of my own depiction).

Option C: "My friend is a giant embarrassment to everypony and I don't want to be associated with her in any realistic way, so here's a lie which is LESS awesome than the truth."

Of course, this whole episode hinged on the fact that Rarity and the rest of the mane 6 were complete unknowns after saving the damn world from a mad god. TWICE. On top of that, Rarity's a fashion designer for Hoity Toity, Rainbow Dash winning the Best Fliers' Competition, Fluttershy being a fashion supermodel, and Twilight being apprenticed to Celestia. The only "unknowns" are Applejack and Pinkie Pie--- Applejack is a businesspony and Pinkie Pie is a one-pony news event wherever she goes. These six should be household names across Equestria a dozen times over.
