Something tells me they aren't actually allowed to discuss those events with normal civilians. They've pretty much never mentioned it outside the 4 pilot episodes and Luna Eclipse.

Unless Celestia has some sort of superpowered MIB light I doubt they forgot about the time the world was plunged into eternal darkness or perpetual chaos.

Yes, they're not allowed to discuss those events, which is why there's massive stained-glass windows of them in the Princess's royal hall.

She's trying to impress High Society here people. You think they'll be amazed that she kneecapped two mad gods?

They want style. They want grace. They want sophistication. Kicking manticores in the face on the way to an ancient seat of power is none of those things.

Rarity knows 3 gods, 2 of them she's friends with, and 1 she banished. Society doesn't get much higher than that.

@573- Look at it from Rarity's perspective "Oh yes. I'm sure they'll be thrilled to death about the tale of trudging through the Everfree Forest. Or better yet, why don't I tell them about the time I carried around a GIANT BOULDER thinking it was a diamond."

I know most of you are unaware of it but veterans with post-traumatic stress are hardly accepted to top-crust society events.

At best they might invite some of those stainless and souless Generals that have only seen the battlefield through satellite images.

On the other hoof, Equestria is a place of heroes and supernatural power. It's not like real life, where everyone who does the actual work of toppling dictators is very seldom in the same room as presidents and kings, except for photo ops. She wields an Element of Harmony, the most powerful artifacts in Equestria. The Princess's top student is someone she knows personally. The idea that they'd be awed by her staying in the Princess's suite and not, well, by WHO SHE IS is kind of strange.

On the other OTHER hoof, maybe these ponies separate wealth and power in a way that humans don't. IRL, enough money is power all on its own. *coughfuckinglobbyistscough* In Canterlot, who's to say? Perhaps high society there really doesn't care about such things as "saved the world twice" and "oh that badly-dancing pony over there could smash you all to a fine red paste if she really wanted to".

On the other other other hoof (hey, ponies have four), it would have been absolutely hilarious had Rarity gone "Oh, I'm so *dreadfully* sorry I can't come to your garden party. I'd love to, but I have to be back in Ponyville to attend the birthday party of the Princess's favorite student, and, well, you can't come. Ta-ta!"

She's trying to IMPRESS high society, not convince them she's crazy.

Granted, if she had her element necklace, she might be able to make a convincing case for herself. But she didn't.

It's high society. There's probably a few cult members around her that devoutly worship one or two mad gods, including those that Rarity's faced off against. She wouldn't survive the week, let alone her being "suddenly departed back to Ponyville on fashion related business" in the middle of the night.

I think mentioning it before the rest of the mane six were with her would sound crazy, but once they showed up it was a bit odd she'd think the ponies would look down on them. Even Twilight's dancing would be overshadowed by them being the Elements of Harmony.
Add onto that Twilight being the most powerful unicorn in Equestria and the Princess' close friend and student. And Rainbow Dash being able to do sonic rainbooms (why did she hav to make up that Rainbow trains the Wonderbolts?)

This, plus Rarity talking about knowing the Princess and staying at the castle like it was nothing makes me think she really doesn't understand what other ponies consider special. Think about it: she had enuff importance around her she could hav probly immediately made up for knowing the hillbilly pony and then some, but instead didn't say anything.

I think seeing that the whole Discord thing was less of a epic battle and more of a lucky cop-out, it would be a good idea to NOT specify how they beat Discord. If the general populace discovered how hard the mane 6 nearly failed, there would probably be riots or something.

She wouldn't even have to touch on her godslaying to come off well in the Rainbow Dash bit.

"Who's that, and why would you take her advice on racing odds?"
"The Sonic Rainboom pony. Can move so fast that she can cause explosions."
"Oh."

@930 And that makes her a wonderful serv. You should know - from all ponies, who truly belongs to high society, nopony are involved in manual labor of any kind (such as sewing; or godslaying, to the matter).
Would she mantion any of that facts and/or events, she would be classified as some kinky wonder-of-the-day to gawk at and gossip about for a some (wery limited time). And nothing more. Road to upper class recognition would be closed forever.

ya know i may be off but I really dont think she was really trying to impress any pony. more so i think she just wanted to fit in as a normal hi class pony. look how she acted when she bumped into fancy pants. she wasn't all caught up in trying to get reconized she was appoligetic and just trying to get back to her room. thats just my 2 cents on it anyway

I think Rarity didn't bring it up because she thought it wouldn't impress the high society ponies. I could see them actually having a bit of an issue with the element-bearers.

After all, the idea that five nobodies from Ponyville (and one from Canterlot) could accomplish what none of the supposedly "better" ponies of high society could, probably rubs a lot of these snobs the wrong way.

The Mane 6 are probably quite famous since their big award ceremony after defeating Discord. The fact that none of these ponies recognized Rarity immediately means they probably ignored everything having to do with the Element Bearers to begin with. Perhaps saving the world isn't considered "sophisticated" enough.

^It was not sophisticated enough due to the fact that they were not wearing a fancy hat and monocle while saving equestria.

Perhaps Trixie left more of an impression on them than they realize, and the Mane 6 simply consider a bit gauche to be going around reminding ponies of it. *Especially* for social points.

Rarity wants to be part of high society, but from the episode it's clear that she wants to be respected for her designs, her culture and her taste. Lying about Rainbow Dash -- and then lying to her friends -- was a *really* bad idea, but it just means she's not perfect. One thing I suppose she doesn't want is to have ponies hanging on her because she can save the world. It's not like it's something you can do as a party trick.

Every person in high society is a "one trick pony" so to speak.

Substance isn't of huge importance, as the episode showed, all that mattered is they were important...

And what is more important than godkilling, and her massive stash of rare gems

I assume that the whole "heroes of the nation" thing never comes up so that the Mane Cast remain somewhat relatable to the primary demographic.

It's not like many six-year-old little girls can play the "I'm a national hero" card to solve their problems, so having Rarity do so doesn't teach the tykes anything.
