Blueblood appears at another social event that Rarity attends earlier in the episode. Maybe Rarity and Blueblood bumped into each other there, and Rarity discovered that Blueblood had matured considerably since she last saw him? She appears at the maiden voyage of this airship because Blueblood invited her, and gave her the honor of sending off breaking the champagne bottle (which he was probably there fore)? |

Maybe he got better after the gala. That was probably the first time in his life he ever got criticized/yelled at and it hurt his ego.
