I mean, of course, all the Cupakes references. AND not to forget the huge ammount of fanart and parodies that were made and are still made just because of that single short fanfic. Ponibooru have over 50 pages of Cupcakes content alone.
No other fanfics can clain so much notoriety. Not even Past Sins and it's troll troops. Not even the ridiculously huge Fallout Equestria can compare! Love it or hate it, Cupcakes is one of the cornerstones the Brony fandom. |

Yeah. It be intresting if someone made a The Cell trailer parody though with Pinkie Pie as D' Orfonio, Rarity as J. Lo, and Big Mactinosh as Vince Vaughn, since they are making trailer parodies of Immortals, but I don't know if it be possible, they made a Cupcakes trailer though. |

Kanrabat, you're wrong.
There's a difference between getting referenced a lot, and being influential. Yeah, a lot of fans have heard of Cupcakes, but that's not enough. Just being popular or notorious doesn't make something influential. Just getting a meme or two doesn't do it either. What influential means is that a large majority of fans liked the story and were creatively inspired by it. And that's just not the case. Just because people reference Cupcakes doesn't mean it inspired them. Simple repetition is not inspiration. The only really noteworthy Cupcakes inspired work that actually built on the ideas Sprinkles had and didn't just repeat them was the excellent Ask Pinkamena Tumblr blog which ended a few months ago. I'd argue that the most influential fanfic in brony history is the unnamed story which established Derpy as a mail carrier, way back in November 2010. That aspect of Derpy has been almost universally embraced by the fandom and even made (semi) canon in the show itself. Meanwhile, Cupcakes is always seen as a fringe story, and at best, an alternate version of Pinkie which is unrelated to the real deal. |

It is probably the most recognizable fanfic. And I will admit it certainly drew its share of trolls and internet hardcore teenagers to attach themselves to the skin of the fandom.
