Yeah, the whole "getting away with lying" was the part that didn't sit well with me.
Other'n that, I loved it.

I don't know, she seemed to suffer enough from the lies she told. You can be punished enough by your own actions without having to be directly confronted about them.

Overall, great episode! Very enjoyable.

Don't forget her entire song was her acting like the center of the damn universe.

How forgiving her friends were made Rarity see the error of her ways, and what led her to defend them in the end (and yes, she actually did defend them, saying they were her friends and the most important ponies she knows), as well as take pride in being a Ponyville pony (she even says that as part of her message to Celestia).

Actually watch the episode, you stupid fuck. As for the rest of your shit, you don't necessarily need negative repercussions to learn something, especially in a situation like the one in the episode. Rarity is a smart enough pony to figure out the lesson purely from good things that were happening.

Its not as much about the suffering, as much as the fact that she never came clean about the lies.
It also really bugs me that she would rather be revered and adored by a bunch of pompous, brainless, twats instead of be with her friends.

I was really starting to like Rarity after Sisterhooves Social, since she seemed to have matured a great deal, but this knocks her down a couple of pegs again.

It would be nice if she eventually matured to the point where she didn't seek everypony else's praise, but became her own pony, made her own work to be timeless art, free from the idiotic whims of the fickle fashion industry.
That, and change her mane to the wet hair style.

I agree with cal. No need to rake her over the coals. She was frazzled and miserable the whole evening, and willingly committed what she thought would be social suicide on behalf of her friends.

She "got away with it" only AFTER she "confessed".

Not to mention Fancypants adimired Rarity for herself and her work apparently. He's almost like the friend Celestia never had considering they tend to think almost the same way.

minus the "LOL" and the pic would be perfect.

She did learn about not being ashamed of her friends in front of others, and she stood up for them all by herself.

She got away with lying about her motives and neglecting a birthday promise, but I can forgive her that much.

Well, if the episodes were long enough to allow for more than one or two plot twists, the episode probably would have gone into a in-episode lesson where she dealt with the consequences of her lying.

The moral lesson was self-taught. The fact that she DID get away with it didn't sit well with her. Rarity still ended up defending her friends and Ponyville, and gained a new ally in Fancypants to boot (the only Canterlot pony besides Celestia that has shown themselves not to be a complete airhead) This was perfectly fine and a great episode.

Better than Rainbow Dash's friends publicly slaughtering her self-esteem instead of doing the right thing and confronting her directly.

It was perfectly clear that she was struggling with the choices she had throughout the whole episode. She just succumbed to her flaws...now, if she hadn't we wouldn't have an episode...well, at least not a very good one.

It is implied that the truth of Rarity's past and friends would be revealed once she spoke to Fancy Pants later on. Also, as with many episodes, she "learns" her lesson at the end and we as fans can only go on that word-of-mouth belief.

But certainly I think that without Fancy Pants acting as a buffer between Rarity and the ponies of Canterlot, then she would have a far more negative repercussion that would probably leave her less opportunities to expand both in her career and in character development.

^Indeed. I wouldn't be surprised if Fancypants actually becomes a recurring character, he was a refreshing change of pace from the overwhelming cloud of bullshit that is the Canterlot higher echelon.

She got raped by Princess Celestia like five seconds after the credits started.

She was punished enough.

^Judging by Celestia's expression it was the other way around.
