Example, Rarity, yet her cutie mark is of gemstones. I get that gemstones are rare (debatable in the land of Equestria, where they seem to be literally farmed), but it doesn't count. What about Pinkie Pie? Her CM is of three balloons, that has nothing to do with pink, or pies, or having Diane as a middle name! The only requirement for pony names is that they must not rely on common human names. Obscure human names like Soren (which is the human counterpart to the name "Soarin") are permissible. It isn't essential but it is preferable if the name has an almost melodic quality to it, usually through alliteration or rhyme. A name relating to a pony's talent or Cutie Mark is also OPTIONAL. Another option is the name being a reference/pun to something. Allie Ways is a prime example, as is Carrot Top, Bon-Bon, and even Mrs. Cake |
