The problem I have with french names is that I cannot say a french word without butchering it horribly. 'Fleur de Lis' comes out as "Flurdy Liss' when I say it. |

Bijou is nice. Fleur-de-lys too (her clumsier sister? Lily Slipped).
She's got to be related to Fancy Pants though; cutie mark designs run in families to some extent. And now I'm faintly creeped out. Head-pun-backstory, bear with me: "Fancy" = French, according to Applejack. Thus the de Lys family who all have lilies as their cutie marks. The head of the family had to shed his old name to make a big new one for himself in Canterlot, but somewhere along the immigration line "calotte" (crown (okay, the top part of a hat)) got written down wrongly as "culotte" (pair of trousers) before being transcribed into Equestrian by somepony who didn't speak much Fancy. Thus, "Fancy Pants". And this is his very adoring, adorable and gangly teenage daughter. |
