This guy owned so hard. Finally a male character who actually had some personality besides Spike and Big Mac.

Fancy Pants was basically a more grown up Rarity in this episode. Absolutely great.

Proof that not all the high-class ponies have to be total asshats. Yay more depth!

As great a guy as he was, it was pretty clear to me that his reputation was in no danger. He single-hoofedly brought Rarity into the upper crust, even though said uppities obviously had no desire to bring anypony else in.

Technically he only cared for Rarity after he heard she was staying at the palace.

So while he may take a little risk to his reputation if he thought it would be worth the price, and obviously has keen eyes enough to notice the potential in Rarity, I still think that he's not a very good pony at heart.

^You are so cynical.
No one is ever just a "good" person, right?
Always has to be something bad about 'em.

Here, let me light up that churro for you.

^^Nono, I'm just saying that he wasn't really putting his reputation on the line - he introduced Rarity to everybody, so he was protecting his own reputation too. And he cared as much about what important people Rarity knew as everyone else, so I think she thought of siding with Rarity as more of an investment. Regular high-class ponies would refuse someone beneath them, but the real top guys are more politically savvy and will probably raise a hoof to anyone they perceive may become a major player.

That's just one interpretation though, you prefer to believe he's just a nice guy you're free to. xD

^I think you might be reading too much into this.

Also, he was very nice to the other five of the mane 6 even though they clearly weren't upper-class.

He's a spindoctor surrounded by sheeps.
Also, it seems to be worth it, because of Rarity's close ties to the princess.

^Oh be quiet. He's a genuinely good guy with a lot of charisma. He's surrounded and respected by them for good reason.
