As great a guy as he was, it was pretty clear to me that his reputation was in no danger. He single-hoofedly brought Rarity into the upper crust, even though said uppities obviously had no desire to bring anypony else in. |

Technically he only cared for Rarity after he heard she was staying at the palace.
So while he may take a little risk to his reputation if he thought it would be worth the price, and obviously has keen eyes enough to notice the potential in Rarity, I still think that he's not a very good pony at heart. |

^^Nono, I'm just saying that he wasn't really putting his reputation on the line - he introduced Rarity to everybody, so he was protecting his own reputation too. And he cared as much about what important people Rarity knew as everyone else, so I think she thought of siding with Rarity as more of an investment. Regular high-class ponies would refuse someone beneath them, but the real top guys are more politically savvy and will probably raise a hoof to anyone they perceive may become a major player.
That's just one interpretation though, you prefer to believe he's just a nice guy you're free to. xD |
