Sorry if my picture will create a "Shitstorm" but I wanted to post it so I accept the consequences that come with.
If you'll excuse me, I need to let off steam in a game like Serious Sam (And to answer your question, yes I did not like the episode for various reasons including the fact that Spike is not present, but it's far from my main reason and I would like to wait to tell me, if I ever must.) |
| CallMeAl #730835 7 months ago |
He's kinda been stiffed in the script as of late. But that'll all change in the next episode. |

Heh? |

Holy shit, coolgame.
You're way overreacting. |
| Anonymous #730845 7 months ago |
Well next episode will be all about him to make up for it...
ALSO INB4 someone makes inflation porn about the episode |
| mindcannon #730846 7 months ago |
My headcanon is that Spike was playing Sburb. |

Canterlot is for fancy ponies.
A regular Canterlot citizen would tell Spike he isn't civilized to be in the party. So, what would be the point in Twilight inviting him if he was gonna get rejected by the classier ponyfolk? That's what I think. |

@HAZX
No, it's actually a pretty valid point. Where is Spike? It is Twilight birthday, afterall... |

I lol'd so hard at the cigar sparkle |
| CallMeAl #730877 7 months ago |
Let's see...he had a significant role in Lesson Zero, disappeared halfway through Luna Eclipsed I think, only showed up at the end of Sisterhooves Social, The Cutie Pox AND May the Best Pet Win, and now he's completely absent in Sweet and Elite.
I'm not saying it's a big deal, but it is a noticeable trend. |
| Anonymous #730881 7 months ago |
... I thought Spike is as much a Canterlot citizen as Twilight, he was hatched in Canterlot after all. |
| HeinousActsZX #730889 7 months ago |
I didn't say he didn't have a good point.
I agree, in fact. I just don't think swearing at people is a good way to go about it. I am aware of the hypocrisy. |

So many birthday episodes |
| Anonymous #730912 7 months ago |
he was fighting dragons in Skyrim |

1: Perhaps Spike has a life outside the Mane 6.
2: Perhaps Spike knew he would have fallen asleep at Twilights party and stayed home to partake more in step one. 3. Perhaps Twilight is having another party with her parents later on, including spike. Or had one already. |

My headcanon:
They already had a birthday party in Ponyville with spike. Spike is shown to be very sleepy after social events. Ergo Spike would have fallen asleep in Ponyville and stayed in Ponyville. The mane six minus Rarity goes to Canterlot to include Rarity in the party leaving Spike to sleep in peace. Problem averted. |

@HeinousActsZX: My "overreacting" (I'm not angry, just disappointed) is especially towards the answer (the "Girls only party") than the episode itself.
And for your information, the last picture below was made the day even before the episode (On Friday, December 2nd) and I had not planned to post it until now. Sorry if my response was still slow, but I had problems with the Internet, so I will only return when this is resolved. |
| Anonymous #730971 7 months ago |
Or Spike and Twilight already did something together prior |

@coolgame
Yeah, I'm sorry too. I acted like a jerk. |

Spike attended Grand Galloping Galla and that was late night but instead He got drunk with donuts |
| coolgame17 #731076 7 months ago |
@HeinousActsZX:
Don't worry HeinousActsZX, you're not a jerk. ;) |
| marioandsonic #731127 7 months ago |
Don't worry, Spike will be the main focus in the next episode! |
| Mattatatta #731191 7 months ago |
I think Spike volunteered to watch over the Library while Twilight was away in Canterlot. This also coincided perfectly with Spike's hasty plan to find Twi a birthday present before it was too late. |

Spike's not the only main character that's been having irregular screen time. Pinkypie, Fluttershy and AJ have felt like cameo characters to me lately. I think its because of budget cuts for VAs.
S2 episodes focus on 1 character at a time. They did that too on S1 but S1 had a more balanced way of using non-story-centered characters per episode instead of making it look like they were just passing by. Think about it this way. Spike was born and lived most of his life in Canterlot. He probably spent time with Twi already and was with his own Canterlot friends during the episode. Moondancer comes to mind too. |
| ryebread #733562 7 months ago |
I'm surprised at Pinkie Pie at the end.
He wasn't invited at her party either! And the odd thing is, that he actually APPEARED on that episode. |
| Anonymous #823528 6 months ago |
If what Ms Faust said is true and Celestia mostly raised Spike maybe he's off visiting her while the party is going on, she's basically his mom and they haven't seen each other in awhile. |
