I can't lie about this.
Before I knew anything about Past Sins, I almost read it because of the cover art. It was intriguing. Thank goodness I did not judge a book by it's cover. |

As a fan of Creeping Darkness, and the vision of Nyx it presented, I will not read Past Sins. |

I'm fairly sure that 99% of the hatred over Past Sins came from a mix of spamming every pony-based site with it and declaring in a hilarious way that Nyx should be canon. I'm sure I remember someone saying Nyx was more worthy of becoming canon than other, supposedly better-written OCs, which couldn't have helped. |

And saying it's 'atrocious' is just another way of saying 'I can't look at anything objectively'. It has flaws, as does most fanfiction. But it has a solid enough story, and decently enough written. Nyx's "If they want a monster I'll give them one" was the only real big negative to me, which could have been fixed with changing it too "This is what I want, isn't it? No, I know it is." For a fanfiction, I'd put it 'Above Average'. |

Nothing about the stilted, "I wish I was better than I am" writing style? Nothing about so much show, so little tell? Nothing about the seemingly randomized personalities given to the cast who could have been replaced entirely with original characters except that then no-one would read it? Nothing about how it guts the theme it could be charitably considered to be exploring with the last-minute magic ass-pull?
One brutally cliche line is your only complaint? I stand by "don't read critically". |

I have read Past Sins and I can say that it is a over hyped piece of shit. Every character is out of character and Nyx is a Mary Sue who has forever tainted the Greek goddess of the night's name. |

I have problems reading anything decently long, so I haven't read trhe fic, but I've generally come to the conclusion that people who are rabidly against a work are more annoying than people rabidly for a work.
because people who are rabidly for a work legitimately enjoy a work for their own tastes. people rabidly against a work and fans of said work are focused on the tastes of others. |

that's popular for a reason, too. wanna know the reason? lots of people like it. individual tastes cannot be debated. the quality of something maybe, though when it comes to fiction it can only be argued to a certain point, but to say it isn't worth being liked is a pointless statement at best. |
