Discord was a pretty solid villain conceptually. They manage their world and get along; he throws the rules out the window and turns them against each other. He's Pony Satan.
Then the episodes aired and he became some silly clown dating Pinkie, a tragic woobie pining over Celestia, or a rapist. I don't like addressing the idea of non-statue Discord because no-one has ever done a single non-shitty thing with it. |

@Anon2: Dude, I agree with you on the second paragraph, some fans forgetting about his 'disharmony' spirit, he isn't just a faggot, but a horrible boyfriend/husband/father.

When we see him break out in gut-holding peals of laughter, it's because Twilight is crying. Discord is interested in making himself happy. What makes him happy is antagonizing others, splitting them from their friends, and turning their worlds to chaos. You want a nice baking date with Discord, Pinkie? Maybe the dough will turn superglue and he'll vanish, leaving your hooves stuck in an adhesive mass you can't get out of the bowl. Maybe that special cake you were baking for Twilight to thank her comes out looking and smelling wonderful, but tastes like rotting compost drenched in hot sauce when she gets it. Why? Because it makes both of you unhappy. |

I don't think Discord is pure evil by any means. He's selfish, egotistical, overconfident, and somewhat sadistic, I'll give you that much. But calling him "Satan" or "Hitler" would be stretching it. He doesn't murder anypony, or rape them, or even cause them direct physical harm. He didn't even want revenge against Celestia or Luna when he broke free, which indicates he never wanted to harm them. He wasn't even angry at them. A truly evil villain would have tried to harm or kill the princesses.
Discord is a prankster and a trickster who wants to change Equestria into his personal playground. That is all. As for forming relationships with anyone, we don't really know that much about Discord's past, do we? All we know is that he's the spirit of Chaos and Disharmony, and that he ruled Equestria before Celestia and Luna kicked his ass. I think it's more than okay to speculate if there's more to him than just being a trolling schmuck. |

@anon715212: Celestia outright states that Discord used to rule Equestria and kept it in a mess of eternal strife and unhappiness (yes, unhappiness). You can't do that by accident pal.
If you genuinely believe that one day the show will reveal that Celestia is a bad pony and Discord is just misunderstood, you really have your heads in the clouds. |
