I must admit, I do -not- like this artist's style. But, it does lend itself to this scenario. Though, points for actually making the different characters have truly unique appearances!
Though, Rarity looking like a clown, and Fluttershy looking like she's been on a rack does detract from the appeal of the originality. |

I dunno, that rarity's starting to grow on me. Sort of a regal/porcelain doll thing going on. And I've always liked his pinkie pie and Fluttershy designs. |

Personally the only huge issues I have with them are Twilight being black (her personality screams pasty soft white nerdy chick to me) and AJ's tan (seems a tiny bit too dark). Porcelain doll Rarity is odd but it'd probably look nice if it was more defined/realistic. |

I think of Rarity being quite Foppish, hence the constant white-face. I mean, the artist has a Sweetie Belle pic where when she's young she has the same complexion as Rarity, but when she grows up her skin tone is much more naturally light, like she was wearing makeup all along. I'm laughing my ass off at the pic where they had to squeeze Pinkie into the outfit. |

I can see Rairity being very fair skinned, but not the crazy Joker permawhite thing. Also, why would Pinkie be the fat one? They all have the exact same body in the show, so I think they'd all be quite fit and trim if they were humans (although Applejack and Rainbow Dash would be more athletic looking). |

SpecialAnon - It's because a roundish figure matches her chaotic and bubbly personality well, and blends nicely with her hair style. The artist draws everything with a good deal of personality and variation in character designs anyways, so it melds well withbthe rest.
I do dislike his Rarity though, it's not so much the white skin but the blue blush. And I think dark skin clashes with Twilight's hair colour and an unhealthy paleness would suit her better |

Well, that's different. Possessed clown marionette Rarity will be visiting me in my dreams tonight, and not in the good way - the one with all the scissors and pins and eyes.
But I like the variety; and dark-skinned human!Twilight works wonderfully, people. It's right there in the name, though she does look about ready to get all Mysteries of the Yoga on your arse admittedly. |
