Ponibooru isn't much better. |
| bamakid1272 #706616 8 months ago |
I'll admit, it wasn't my favorite episode, but it was far from being bad. I really don't see why so many are so negative about it. I guess Seth's fanboyism of Trixie just spread . . . |
| Anonymous #706628 8 months ago |
No one have problem with Animation. It's the today's episode script that everyone are upset about. |
| Kanashi1kage #706630 8 months ago |
She didn't say this episode specifically. She said in the last month. So she's bummed out about the reception to the last few episodes. |
| ToySoldierScratch #706633 8 months ago |
@615 ponibooru is much, much worse |
| PonyRIG #706635 8 months ago |
*comes back for a bit* i bet all the ones complaining are "overanalizing" the episode to the point it kills the fun. |
| bamakid1272 #706651 8 months ago |
I think RIG has it. People are starting to expect too much from it. It's still a little kid's show. A very, very, VERY good one at that, but still a kid's show. |
| Anonymous #706653 8 months ago |
Oh man...I liked the episode and I still feel like an asshole... |
| PVRyohei #706664 8 months ago |
Honestly, this was my least favorite episode as of yet. I know how much effort the production team put into it, and I'm gratefull for that, but I cant' force myself to like the episode beacause of this. |
| Scootsmod #706671 8 months ago |
Well, i throughoutly enjoyed this episode. I haven't been keeping tabs on the general reaction to it, though... |
| PonyRIG #706677 8 months ago |
can someone give me a reason to not like the episode that don't fall into "overanalizing"? |
| Anonymous #706678 8 months ago |
Agreed with RIG. I think it's because everyone on ED was expecting something else (Trixie) and they got this instead. And possibly because of so many episodes focusing on just Rarity and Rainbow Dash.
While this one wasn't the best episode, it certainly wasn't anywhere near "bad". I'm not going to complain about a show like this when the makers work so hard to provide more pony. |
| Fuzzy_Logic #706679 8 months ago |
Sibby wrote that crapfest, then? |
| Doctor_Whooves #706695 8 months ago |
She's not a writer afaik, so no. I haven't seen anyone badmouthing the animation (which was as good as always), just the writing.
The writer was someone new, I think? |
| Fuzzy_Logic #706698 8 months ago |
allow me to elaborate
-heavy focus on something that rarely happens as if it happens constantly, always a bad thing for a plot -RD saving people was obscenely boring anyway -Plot is complete less than halfway through the episode as it is shoved down your throat who the mare actually is -Episode is 98% RD sulking and talking to herself it was just bad. The pacing was terrible, the music was terrible...it was bad. Bad bad. Legit worst episode bad. |

last month that would be this episode sisterhooves social, the cutiepox, and may the best pet win correct
I mean I disliked may the best pet win mostly because its hard for me to get to like Dash and she was just being extra...Dash-like that episode. The other two were two of my favorites and this one I even liked despite not liking Dash |
| PonyRIG #706716 8 months ago |
@fuzzy_logic: not sure if you are serious or making fun of people that overanalize everything like a lawyer |
| Fuzzy_Logic #706724 8 months ago |
I said nothing overanalyze-y. "RD is basically a super hero" is a weird intro to an episode. Finishing the entire plot of an episode (from the viewer perspective) halfway through is insanely awful writing. That's not overanalyzation, that's analyzation. |
| TheLoneLampman #706725 8 months ago |
ED can suck it. There hasn't been a single episode that has been below mediocre at worst. Certainly nothing bitch-worthy.
I hope they never make another episode with Trixie just to piss them off. HA! |
| PonyRIG #706732 8 months ago |
i afraid that i am unable to see what you see, maybe that explains why the simpsons are still the same for me |
| SenatorSufficient #706743 8 months ago |
I think what some in the brony community sometimes forgets is that this show has and always will be ultimately targeted to young children. Of course, the many positive qualities of the show is what attracted most of us in the first place and I don't understand the hate just because an episode might not be up to par. I still appreciate the hard work they put into this.
I think RIG is right when he talks about over-analyzing. I mean I just watch the show, relax, and enjoy it for what it is. |
| PonyRIG #706746 8 months ago |
that was for Fuzzy |
| Anonymous #706750 8 months ago |
Wow, considering how many people love Rainbow Dash, I thought they would love two Dash-centric episodes in a row. You can never tell how this fandom will react to things. |
| Anonymous #706754 8 months ago |
@fuzzy_logic
I agree with RIG. I don't see it either. |
| HeinousActsZX #706761 8 months ago |
For me, if I don't like the plot, I just enjoy the gorgeous animation.
That way, I'm never unhappy when I'm watching the show! Though it does make me sad that Equestria Daily, undoubtably the "cleanest" part of the inner fanbase, is becoming more and more negative. |
| MudPuppy #706765 8 months ago |
Anyone who actually, seriously expected Trixie is kind of crazy. And anyone who hated the episode obviously needs to watch it again. Not saying you have to like it (although I really don't understand how you could hate it, unless you got your expectations SO high, or expected it to be Trixie), but at least have a bit more appreciation for the show.
As Sibsy said: it's easy for people to just 'poo on something' without really thinking, so try and think about it in the most neutral, non-biased way you can, and then see how you feel. *prepares to be shot for my (hopefully reasonable) comment* |
| MudPuppy #706775 8 months ago |
Gosh, I really, REALLY loved that episode, so it just makes me sad more than anything that other people don't share that feeling...I wish some people would just calm down a bit and enjoy it a bit more but....Ah well...:/ |
| Martingale #706812 8 months ago |
Are you people seriously complaining about the writing of a kid's show being too predictable for you?
While all of us could easily guess the ending half-way through the episode, it's only because we're not the target audience. Heck, I knew the ending of Shutter Island halfway through it, so it's not like I don't know the feeling, but it's only because I've watched several cubic shitloads of films with similar twists in my life. Kids, however, did not. If you want to drop some hints for them, you can't rely on their knowledge of cliches. |
| Fuzzy_Logic #706815 8 months ago |
Dont see what? The reason "RD is a super hero for 8 minutes" is weird, or the episode being complete for the viewer halfway through?
Probably the latter, so...when the Mare Do Well uses magic. It's friggin twilight's magic aura, and there's no attempt made to hide this. Then they fly away? Now let's see, who has twilight's magic aura and can fly? Twilight and Fluttershy. The Mare jumps across buildings too, who jumps a lot? Pinkie Pie. But the second they show that aura and then go on to show wings, it's extremely obvious- the Mare is an effort by the rest of the mane cast to teach RD a lesson (one that she already learned before, mind you). So then there's 10 more minutes of you knowing the whole plot of the episode but RD still having to sulk around and figure it out? It's no fun. |
| TobiasKazama #706818 8 months ago |
EqD comments are hilarious:
"[...] the second season of MLPFiM is descending to just another trite, poorly written, overly preachy show for little kids." My reaction: LOL! We got Twilight going bathshit insane, Luna yelling at everyone, Sweetie D'aaw and Rarity bitching, Applebloom speaking fancy and Zecora having more lines than in her own season 1 episode, Rainbow whistling Ride of The Valkyries And finally the Rainbow Dash fanclub complete with wigs and tape-on cutie marks. Season 2 has been amazing so far, and there are still 18(?) episodes to go! |
| PonyRIG #706824 8 months ago |
@fyzzy: have you realize that most of the little kids that watched the episode didn't figure it early too? after all, THIS IS A KID SHOW, with a lot of references that only grown ups would get |
| MudPuppy #706848 8 months ago |
@Martingale Um, OK, no offense, but how old are you? Kids are NOT as stupid as some 'grown-ups' seems to think. Heck, I'm a kid, and I guessed the ending as soon as Fluttershy flew by in her costume. Not to sound arrogant, but even if I was a few years younger, I almost certain I would've figured it out. That didn't make it any less enjoyable to me though. Honestly, I think it was actually SUPPOSED to be predictable in a way. I don't think they were trying too hard to hide the fact that the Mare-Do-Well was all (or almost all) of the mane cast. The point was that it remained a secret to Rainbow Dash until the end. I think most 'kids' could figure out something was up by mid-episode. That really shouldn't dull people's enjoyment of the episode THAT much. Again, anyone who hates it should really watch it again, in a more neutral way. |
| MudPuppy #706863 8 months ago |
@ Fuzzy_Logic Exactly: it's SUPPOSED to become obvious. But not until mid-episode, and for Dash, not until the END of the episode. |
| Calpain #706900 8 months ago |
I don't know. To me this episode was one of the weaker ones and was the first of this season I didn't watch twice on the Hub. It just didn't click for me for some reason.
Not to say I'm doom or gloom about the second season, I've loved it so far and look forward to the rest! I feel bad though that the negativity that is there has started to effect people like Sibsy and I hope we don't see more people jumping ship in the future as a result of this pessimism. I kind of expected to see a division between people who liked the first season over the second, but I didn't think it about it affecting members of the show crew. |
| Martingale #706903 8 months ago |
@MudPuppy
I might've derped a bit and caused a misunderstanding. I meant that while kids could pretty easily figure out the ending, people who were more familiar with cliches could feel like they were being strobe-lighted with constant hints. I didn't mind, because I always watch cartoons to have some fun and cultivate my inner child. In fact, I found today's episode to be incredibly enjoyable, and I will make a little half-baked GIMP image to draw a comparison to one of my other favourite cartoons. When I want a more brain-stimulating experience I watch Lynch and the likes. Speaking of which -- I finished watching Twin Peaks already, and I could go on an angry rant about that. Long story short -- there are some shows that got genuinely screwed during their second season. MLP:FiM is not one of them. PS. @MudPuppy Twenty five. |
| Fuzzy_Logic #706952 8 months ago |
it's SUPPOSED to become obvious.
And that means it isn't awful writing? Intentional or not, having 10/22 minutes of an episode have nothing to look forward to is ridiculous. ave you realize that most of the little kids that watched the episode didn't figure it early too? I do not believe kids are that stupid, no. |
| ElementofChaos #706964 8 months ago |
It's pretty common in television shows, not just cartoons, for something that is incredibly obvious to the audience to not be obvious to the characters.
Heck, how do we know Twilight is the only one in-universe with that colour magic aura? Not to mention Rainbow Dash of all ponies likely wouldn't pay much attention to a detail like that. |
| PonyRIG #706968 8 months ago |
yeah, on second thoughts, kids of this generation are more smarter (and evil) than before, so scrap what i said earlier, but still, i am unable to see all those things you hate about the episode. |
| SpecialAnon #707034 8 months ago |
People are possibly forgetting that these episodes were made before the 1st season even ended. Any relations to things previously existing in media is purely coincidental.
In terms of the episode, I personally found it pretty likable, but certainly not my favorite so far. That spot belongs to Lesson Zero and Crazy Twilight. It kinda felt like the point of the lesson/episode was constantly hitting a brick wall. Pretty sure we all know that these moral-of-the-story lessons never follow along and/or really influence the characters at all...but that's fine I guess. |
| Anonymous #707081 8 months ago |
@Fuzzy_Logic
Just enjoy it for the animation then. Or go write a fanfic or something. |
| Mattatatta #707130 8 months ago |
I'm gonna wander over to dA now and leave a comment saying I enjoyed today's episode and that the majority of EqD's commenters appear to be getting ungrateful - so their word is worth ponyfeathers. Who is with me? |
| BattleGT #707166 8 months ago |
^I'm with you I mean the episode didn't click for me but it wasn't "WURST EPISODE EVAR" But it wasn't the strongest episode. I do think that people's expectations on EQD do need to be lowered a bit for each episode. I'm not saying people should go in expexting crap. But I feel so bad that Sibsy has stayed away from EQD due to the comments. And understandably so.
I'm all for people expressing their opinion it's just that some people tend to overstate them. And i don't think that EQD should be the measuring stick on the overall reaction to an episode. |
| Takino #707243 8 months ago |
I'm with Mattatatta. I'm loving these new episodes. As far as whether or not who Mare-Do-Well was was too obvious, who cares? That kinda wasn't the point. I figured it out pretty quickly, and it was fun to watch how the different girls used their different abilities, and how the story played itself out.
This show is a beacon of friendship, optimism, and love in the internet, but in the community that's being clouded. I think we need to remember what it was that set us apart in the first place, what it was that made Hasbro and the show's creators respond so well to us. |
| GeminiSaint #707311 8 months ago |
> RD fan club (with Scoots wearing a RD wig!).
> Darkwing Pony. > Ghostwriter Spike. > Much fun with super hero tropes. > A little twist with the letter at the end. > Pinkie Sense! > RD learns a lesson! There was a lot to like in this episode, IMO. While not the best ep EVAH, I think it was pretty funny, and I was quite surprised to see all the negative reaction to it. |
| Anonymous #707752 8 months ago |
Duke Nukem took more than a decade to be finished, and it still bombed when it came out. Effort doesn't make one immune to criticism.
That said I did like this episode's sense of humor and references to super hero stuff. In my opinion, Season 2 so far is superior to Season 1. My only problem is that what the other five ponies did to Rainbow Dash in today's episode just to teach her humility was a huge dick move. But it's become pretty apparent that in this show the ends justify the means and nothing is meant to be taken seriously, so whatever. |
| imnotgivingmynametoamachine #707884 8 months ago |
I'm with GeminiSaint. The episode had me laughing out loud irl when I first saw it. The cool shout-outs, return of Pinkie Sense, and some nice action scenes were very good. It IS a bit dull during the rewatches though, but I thoroughly enjoyed it the first time through. |
| Anonymous #708174 8 months ago |
There was just too much hokey, cheesy over-the-top dialogue in this. The mayor in particular had me facepalming. "Here's some pony in a mask and cape! I hereby decree she is OUR OFFICIAL HERO! Now we'll throw her a parade!"
Don't take this as a blanket indictment of season two, because I loved the first five episodes. It's just that starting with #6, I feel like the show's getting less and less clever and lazily opting for hokey dialogue just to keep the story moving. And that's on the writers, not on Sibsy or any other animators; all they can do is what they can with what they're given. |
| Ferrotter #709391 7 months ago |
A bad episode of MLP:FiM is still generally better than a good episode of most anything else. Except maybe Pound Puppies, that's grown on me lately.
And Mare Do Well was NOT even a bad ep! |
| Anonymous #709814 7 months ago |
Try this: when a new episode comes out, don't speculate about what's going to happen in it. Don't get your expectations up too high. Don't think stuff like "it's going to be Trixie!". That was usually meant jokingly I suppose, but some people still started to expect it from the episode, as well as other things. I know how that goes: it's happened to me all too often (though never with MLP:FiM), and it always leads to disappointment, unless you actually DO get that close to guessing what will happen in the episode, and anticipate that happening. I've been able to watch all the MLP:FiM episodes for the 1st time in an amazingly neutral way, and that has been a true blessing, because I've been able to see the episodes in a way that's actually fair. :)
I know many people are freaking out a bit because they are concerned about the show, and the direction it's going in. This is also something that's usually caused by getting unrealistic expectations. Personally, I think season 2 is fantastic so far, and getting better, and I think I've read, watched, and written enough stuff (not fanfiction either) to know something about critiquing episodes in a FAIR way. If you didn't like the recent episode, well, that is certainly your opinion, although please give a thought to the people putting so much into it, and be a little bit more like Pinkie: look at the positives, or watch it again in the most neutral way you can. Maybe it's not the best ep EVER, but saying it's 'bad' is just totally unfair. Anyways, I'm going to watch it again, and I just hope that the negativity dies down a bit...because it's nicer to enjoy good stuff. :) |
