They are using DAW's (Digital Audio Workstation). I personally recommend you FL Studio. Also you would need soft synth's too as plugins (for example for the bass they use Native Instrument's Massive often). And yeah you should check out Alex S youtube profile as he writes the plugins he uses. Also you should download drumloops from torrent sites. (But you have to know making music takes a lot of time, experience, and you have to have some ideas before you start). Also read about analouge synth, sampling etc, its quite interesting! Good luck my little brony. |

Make an account on MyLittleRemix and introduce yourself. That's where a lot of the musical bronies hang out. |

Most seem to use either FL or Ableton, personally I'd suggest Ableton, never did like FL myself but note that just because you have the main program doesn't mean you're going to have all the sounds, you'll need plugins to get to the real meat, the DAW is just the host - like the guys above said things like Massive, Synth1 (Free), Reaktor are all the sort of instrument plugins that create the sounds you're looking for. |

Here's a FREE program to make tracked music with. It's great with high BPM (beats per minute) tracks. Unfortunately it's only for Macs.
This one's not free, but it's very professional, with arpeggios, vibratos and other musical score effects not commonplace in MIDIs. It has many more features not included in Melody Assistant. Buy the version with the GOLD Sound Base. Available for Macs and Windows. Both will also use custom soundbanks, called sound fonts. |

If you want a FL-like tracker that's free and open-source, I've been playing around with Linux MultiMedia Studio. |

Most of us use FL Studio. It's free once you know where to look. |

I haven't made any pony music, but for music in general and multitracking I tend to use Sonar Producer Edition. |

a free tracker for windows is OpenMPT, but trackers are viewed as less comprehensible than other kinds of DAWs.
and what #700183 said p.s.: FL studio is not and never was/will be a tracker. |

^ I was probably wrong in saying "FL-like tracker", I apologize. |
