She's a protector, basically. Nearly got herself killed trying to fight more or less every predator in the Everfree forest at the same time.
I was wondering why her wings were visible through her vest but then I realised that she had her mark, so just about everypony knows who she is and there's no real reason to hide them anymore, same for the glasses. |

MagicMarker, I think I can explain. Although, I'm definitely not what you'd call a fan, though. Nyx has the appeal of an injured baby animal. She's alone, vulnerable, and scared. Obviously, there some kind of parental connection that both Twilight and the reader feel towards the character.
Of course, the character never really progresses past this point. She always has to be defended, even from reasonable requests (like, say, making sure she's not secretly a manifestation of pure darkness). Her 'transformation' just turns her into a whining, wangsting little brat who remains the focus of the story even while she's incredibly unlikeable. Of course, there should be some sort of redemption, right? I mean, that was the whole point at the outset. Nightmare Moon made into a child who goes through some kind of redemption and becomes good. Except, as the story continues to point out, she's not Nightmare Moon. They literally just made an entirely new character, a complete tabula rasa, and shut her off from the darkness in Nightmare Moon's heart. So, you know, so much for redemption, turns out evil people are just plain evil! I can understand why the character is compelling at the beginning, but by the end of this train wreck I honestly can't see why anyone would care about Nyx. Have I mentioned I'm not a fan? |

I suspect that Hex-Master is secretly a Nyx fanboy. He seems like a smart enough guy when he's not making troll posts, which makes me think that he's invoking Rule 19 of the internet:
"The more you hate it, the stronger it gets." It's part of what made the MLP fanbase so strong. Past Sins probably would have faded away after the later chapters began to decline in quality. Now, it's an entrenched part of the fandom, largely thanks to the "haters" though I suspect that many of them were indifferent and looking for laughs or actually trying to stealthily promote it. |
