...no, I have to agree with them. Discord like... effed up everyone's lives, uprooted society and physics... you... you... just kinda smashed some rocks and played a couple of mean tricks. Let's just look at the facts, Moon. You are the corrupted version of Princess Luna, you seek to bring about eternal night, and you don't quite pull it off. Discord, meanwhile, is the physical embodiment of anarchy and madness, who wants to take back Equestria and twist it into his own psychotic image. And he DOES it.
Your motivation was overpowering jealousy and a need to be loved/feared by your subjects. Discord's motivation was to make life Hell for everypony for his own amusement. You're played by Tabitha St. Germain. He's played by John de Lancie. Admittedly, this was a close call, but John's got Star Trek on his side. Your attempts to take out the Mane Six only taught Twilight of their respective elements. Discord's mind games outright thrashed said elements, and he wasn't even trying that hard. You're both spectacular villains, and both two-parters were sheer epicosity. Discord just... edged you out of first place. |

really what the hell did Nightmare Moon do in her episodes beyond scaring the main cast a bit, breaking some rocks and fucking with a manticore. also she get's a ton of fanart, probably on account of her nice design. |

Discord was a genuinely disturbing villian without a motive, which made him scarier.
Nightmare Moon reminded me of a cheesy Saturday morning cartoon bad guy. Not bad, but certainly not frightening. |

Discord had more air time in his 2 episodes to shine and show his skills then NMM because her pilots was suppose to present mane6 too... + the way he got pwned was stupid: "sup girls my magic don't work on you anymore, my emo spell was dispelled and I see that you can use EoH again.... ok I will just sit in my throne and watch how you petrify me" = dat cocky evil mastermind ;d NMM only mistake was that she teleported with Twilight and EoH stones to second tower in old castle so other came fast to help Twi and unlock last element :/ if I would have to pick eternal night or eternal chaos, I would pick eternal night so I could die from lack of sunlight or heat of sun + maybe still have a bit of sanity (in chaos world my sanity would be crushed in first few hours probably) ofc I like both Nightmare Moon & Discord but NMM have better design and I enjoy more darker villains then crazy ones (herp derp Joker/Loki) |

Thay're different types of villains
people forget that NNM isn't an evil overlord she's an otherworldly night being, like old school fairlies. Dicord meanwhile is a chaos god, he could easly kill anything he wants but chooses not too because, one it would be too easy, two if he kills them then he can't mess with them anymore. |

Nightmare Moon doesn't get fanart because she' harder to depict as lonely and abused than Princess Luna, which in turn makes it harder to demonize Princess Celestia. And you know how much Bronies love to demonize Princess Celestia. |

Nightmare Moon could have eventually killed everypony in Equestria with her eternal night crap (crops dying leading to starvation and all). Discord is many things: a jokester, a trickster, and a total troll. But he isn't a killer.
Bear in mind, Lauren Faust said that Nightmare Moon was actually an evil force that possessed Luna. Luna was only a vessel, and a terribly ineffective one at that, in the end. If that evil force found a new vessel (assuming the Elements didn't actually destroy it), Equestria could be in REAL trouble. My theory is this: the force that turned Luna into Nightmare Moon found Luna easy to corrupt due to her feelings of loneliness, jealousy, and bitterness. So, if that force were to find somepony of great strength and still greater emotional weakness, it could potentially lead to a new villain who would make Discord look as innocent as a newborn puppy. Also, I'm pretty sure Lauren mentioned at one point that it was that force that helped to free Discord. I could be wrong, as my memory isn't the best. If it's true, however, this force is ancient and is seriously bent on eliminating harmony forever. tl;dr-- Nightmare Moon was potentially more dangerous than Discord. It's just that Luna wasn't particularly well-equipped mentally to be an effective villain. |
