I think that SOPA is so stupid that absolute noone will ever approve of this apart from the guys who worked on it.
So it will either fail spectaculary, or be approved while being far less bad than expected, or approved while being bad, which causes the USA to no longer be considered a democracy. Direct or indirect. |

If America's so worried, why don't you all actually go do something about it? |
| Anonymous #685777 8 months ago |
^ assuming no one is doing anything? |

Deeper, I've signed those petition and written to my congressman.
If I could, I would go out and protest, but life intrudes on that |

America isnt really the greatest example of democracy.. |

By yes, I mean I agree. Not "yes it is". It's more of a... democracy by powers, thing. Whether it be by interest groups, contributors, lobbyists, it's whoever wins that democratic race. Sometimes it can be truly democratic, but that's only because a ring of power is unstabilized and vulnerable to public opinion. |
| Anonymous #685843 8 months ago |
destabilized is correct, actually. |

It could very well pass now that the free media and information network has become a threat to..uuh..people? |

What if petitions and picketing isn't enough? I'm not well-informed on the full details of the law over there; what if you need to make your own bill or take measures to prevent this sort of thing being brought up again? |
| Anonymous #685939 8 months ago |
They just keep pushing it till it gets thru. Its only matter of time. |
| Anonymous #685956 8 months ago |
There's huge opposition, but the opposition is being stonewalled by supporters because they have the strongest and wealthiest lobbyists. That's why people are concerned. Yeah, democracy is great and all that, but the system we have over here blows. You can't get anywhere unless you possess power or wealth yourself. |

This is why I no longer believe in democracy. In my opinion, anarchism is the system that holds the most potencial, but humanity is not ready for it yet. |
| Anonymous #686042 8 months ago |
^To be fair. USA has been heading towards Fascism for a while now. Without no transparency you cant really have democracy. |

The U.S. needs someone like Putin. |

I'm all for a tribalistic gerontocracy state kept small by a confederation (families represented by older members in a group working together - social cohesion is stronger) myself, but a meritocracy run by an Alicorn like Equestria is nice, too. |

PVRyohei said: I don't even think anarchism will be "the answer". Government or lack thereof in all forms is about those with power manipulating those without power into a placid state. You make the common people happy, they won't get upset about what you do, and they won't rise up and kill you. The same will more or less happen with anarchism. Getting rid of the power structure won't rid the system of its fundamental flaw: the human element. Of course, with the American government, the relationship has shifted to pleasing the people to pleasing the corporations at the expense of the people, which is why we're all getting upset, essentially. It doesn't matter who you vote for, they'll be bought out. We're a country ruled by the companies. We'll probably rise up at some point and kill people - in the name of freedom, justice, or some other flavor-of-the-week ethical value, of course. (Not unlike how bronies lash out against particularly "hateful" individuals like Wesdamaan in the name of "love and tolerance".) Every good movement needs a three word slogan and a healthy dose of manipulation based on an already false idea of morals. But I have faith - faith that no matter what happens, humanity will forever remain unhappy. |

^^
You have agood point. Anarchism, democracy or any kind of system will only truly work when people really adopt love and tolerance, which is impossible. I'm from Brazil, but the situation here is pretty similar to USA, the diference is that the government is more focused on pleasing themselves rather than the corporations, and most of the population has no will to do anything about it. |

Well, it's good to know my off-the-cuff rants fueled by misanthropy and general depression apparently have validity. |
