Meh. If this is the extent of the influence of the toyline on the show, then I don't mind at all.
If the toys forced the show/episode to be less entertaining, then that's one thing. But I don't think that was the case. Win/Win. Potentially sell more of this set. Introduce (what I think is) a neat character to the canon. |

I think it was more to do with the fact that the writers either noticed that parts of the fandom began accepting a tortoise as a potential pet for Dash and wanted to shout-out to us, or they saw the irony in pairing up RBD with a tortoise and wanted to have some tongue-in-cheek fun with Hasbro. |

Yeah, it's product placement, but thankfully not in a bad way. Apparently the rule is that stuff from the toy line gets put into the show from time to time, but the animators get to decide how. |

The tortoise just happens to be the classic foil for speed racing. The other pets of the set were a butterfly for Fluttershy and a kitten for Twilight, i.e. bogus. Also, Tank isn't even a turtle. |

The fanon got the idea for Speedy from the toy, the writers probably did too (probably just came across it in a toy store and was all "IDEAAAA"). Fanon had nothing to do with this.
I don't get why people treat the toyline like it's some unspeakable evil. Aside from Pink Celestia, I don't have a problem with any of them. As far as girl's toys go, they're pretty decent. You don't like hasbrOC recolor toys? Watch an episode and pay attention to the lesser BG ponies. |

Also, I'm pretty sure the toy in the picture comes with a tortoise if you actually look at its feet. The packaging is mislabelled. Give them a break, the mane cast themselves hardly care about the difference (sans Fluttershy). |

They already said the toyline influences the show (calm down, it's only a minute influence, the only confirmed example was twalait sporklz bollon). This toy was practically the first wave of merchandise, it's fairly safe to assume it was designed and planned before S2 was even thought out. |

Whether it's coincidence that everyone matched a tortoise with the fastest pony, or Hasbro matched the writing for an ep by adding a tortoise to the Rainbow Dash toy (by the timeline, nearly impossible, but who knows), or Hasbro wanted a tortoise in the show to match the toy, or whatever way it happened, it's in the show now, so it's canon. Rainbow Dash has a pet tortoise. End of story. If they ever do the same with the blind bag ponies, same thing, end of story. But opposite side of the coin, it's not canon until it's in the show.
And also, I thought it was a great ep. |

Changes that happened to the show just for toy line: Hot air balloon, Train, Turtle.
Expect this to continue. As we go into season 3, there's going to be so much out of place toy/playset shit in the show that nothing's going to make any sense anymore. |

Don't have the screencap now, but IIRC Faust has said that Hasbro execs occasionally tell the series people to include something-or-other, like the balloon, but that's it. This time, no doubt someone or other from Hasbro said "Hey, we've got a turtle-" "A tortoise." "What*ever*. A tortoise packaged with the Rainbow Dash toy, so have it show up in the series."
So far, the toy placements haven't hurt the series at all, so I expect them to be able to integrate them without any problems in the future. After all, to Hasbro this is primarily an animated vehicle to advertise their toy lines and stuff. |

Just give Rarity's toy Opalescence already, she's the only one of the mane 6 who never had a show matching pet. Worse yet, Opal gets a LOT of screen time, perhaps only second to Angel or maybe even tied with him. |
