About turtle/tortoise, I checked in my language (Polish) and in French and in both turtle==tortoise. Can someone describe the difference? Is there any? |

Tortoises live on land and have club-shaped feet. Terrapins (how's that for a rare word) are amphibious and have webbed feet. When most people think of "turtles," they're usually actually thinking of terrapins like the red-eared slider (the most common pet "turtle") or the snapping turtle. Actual turtles live in the sea and have flippers.
The group containing tortoises, terrapins, and turtles is called chelonians. |
