They're all ingredients and are pretty useless on their own. You gotta mix them together and mix the right stuff together in order to get something.
Applebloom must be a swift learner, though, because she memorised the exact recipe for Heart's Desire just by watching Zecora (unless I've got it wrong and she actually just swiped some of the potion when Zecora was out). Still, my point still stands; you need to know what you're mixing together in order to get something worthwhile out of it. |

I think it was just the Heart's Desire she took, and the other ingredients for the potion were things to keep its effects from going out of control like they did with Apple Bloom. Zecora says that only one plant was missing late in the episode. |

Zecora told Apple Bloom about that one flower called "Heart's Desire" and then left her alone in the hut... After Apple Bloom had expressed her heart's desire for a cutie mark to Zecora. The results were predictable. She'd have been better off with Poison Joke. |
