Look, it's obvious what the deal is here. The whole "I sell quills and sofas" thing is obviously a cover story.
He's *actually* a therapist - couch for patients, quill for taking notes. Ponyville has some freaky crap go down all the dang time, and it's clear plenty of the residents would need therapy after something like Parasprites or Discord. |

Apple Bloom's cutie marks appeared at separate times, with the second one appearing in front of everybody. For all we know, his cutie mark appeared at one time and is technically only one mark.
And maybe the quills and sofas shop is a family business and it was his special talent to take over the business. Like Applejack's was to take over the family farm. |
